which wonderbar to buy
i am looking to install a wonderbar on my car. the frame split, so after its fixed i want to help prevent this from hapening again.
i am looking at these:
http://www.spohn.net/search.cfm
what advantage does the adjustable one have over the non?

Adjustable, if your frame has bowed, or been wrecked, its easier to install, and possibly help pull it back to place. You can also use it to pre-load tension on the car.
Dont forget TDS also sells one.
Ebay you can find factory pull offs from salvage cars.

Despite being a strong supporter of Spohn, TDS got my vote for their wonderbar and Lon's exceptional service. I didn't feel that I personally needed an adjustable wonderbar. Moral of the story, you pay your money and you take your choice!

My TDS unit bolted right up other than having to do some minor grinding on a locating tab on the passenger side sway bar bracket. It could hardly be easier.

Another vote for TDS. It's probably the best designed bar, and it's the least expensive--except for a stock wonderbar from a junkyard or used parts dealer.
Any wonderbar will help, whether it's stock or aftermarket. But the aftermarket wonderbars are made with a wider steel tube than the stock bar, so they might even be more solid feeling than the stock one. I say 'might' because the handling differences might not even be noticeable between bars, since they'll all work.
And since each aftermarket wonderbar is made from a larger size steel tube than the stock bar, that means the difference between them lies in the mounting brackets.
And looking at the mounting brackets for each brand, the TDS brackets have a superior-design that gets bolted to the frame rails in three places on each side rather than two like all of the competitors' bars. Also, the bracket isn't only welded to the bar along one edge(like all the competitors' bars). The bracket wraps around the end of the bar completely, probably adding some extra stability there, and it's welded on both sides of each end.
Haha. Sorry for all that info and analysis, I got carried away, lol. What can I say? Lon's TDS Wonderbar is a great product. :hail:
Edit: And it's got a very nice finish too.

I remember wonderbars going on Ebay for like $125-140 sometimes when they were all the rage...can't beat Lon's bar for $45 or so and it's a better design than the stocker and fits great.

You really can't go wrong with the steering box brace--and Lon and Steve both support the board. That said, as another option, you might consider the Global West version which was only proceded by the GM's Wonderbar.

The TDS steering brace is available at a reduced price as part of the GP2 which consists of an Alston SFC and TDS Steering Brace. I plan to end the GP in roughly 2 weeks whichis the scheduled ship date of the Alston SFC's.

Just to voice in as far as spohn's wonderbar installation, I had no problems whatsoever with bolt holes not lining up or anything from the fan shroud getting in the way, it took about 10 minutes and all bolt holes lined up. Perhaps they fixed the bolt hole not lining up problem because I had no error encounters what so ever. Either choice will be great and you'll be supporting one of our sponsors who both do an excellent job.

I just built one out of 1.25" square steel stock. It cost less then $10. And i can say damn that thing is awesome. I now have instant steering response.

Yeh the TDS was a great peice prolly my fav suspension peice lol. Made a big difference imo and i liked the way it fit. I had to use a crow bar to pry the bar over a tad once i got one side tight but made me feel it was where the frame was suppose to be and nice and tight.

I just got my adjustable Spohn wonder bar today and will be putting it on this weekend. Any advice on how much preload to crank into this thing? Thanks.

I installed my Spohn adjustable wonder bar yesterday. Pretty simple install. I don't know why I didn't put one of these in sooner. As for preload, I just tightened it up untill it felt right and added a 1/2 turn for good measure. The test drive proved fairly responsive considering my entire steering system still needs a rebuild, but that will come soon enough. All in all, a definate noticable improvement.

I installed my TDS steering brace last year. I bought the first type and then Lon upgraded me to his second design.
The design of the brace is superb and way better than stock.
As if that was not enough, Lon is a great guy to deal with and gives great customer service, which is so hard to find these days.
Don't get me wrong, I like spohn, i have some of his stuff, but TDS's breace is just better IMHO
