Coil overs

I am debating on putting Front and rear coil overs on my 1991 Z28 Camaro, or else 1.2 lowering springs and real good shocks. I want it to be good on the Strip and corners, so are the coil overs worth the extra money???? An advise would be apprecaited.

I'm a big fan of the Ground Control stuff for autox use.

Re: Coil overs

So you are saying to go with the coil overs. I seen a Front kit buy Sphon that will let you lower it to 3", and also a rear kit from Sphon, but it did not mention how much you can lower the rear, dose anyone have a clue, i am guessing 3" as well

Re: Coil overs

Ground Control stuff isn't true coil over, but rather weight jacks, that allow about 3" of adjustment, corner to corner.

To coil over the fronts, you'd hafta go with different struts completely. Weight Jacks allow you to retain your struts & adjust the springs independently.

not entirely true, the front kit will work with just about any strut, the rear kit uses a special shock.

Actually, I was COMPLETELY WRONG. Dunno why, but I keep thinking we have coil-over struts, when we don't. I should know that by now. Damn sure done enough to know better..

thread-jack: are weight jacks (the springs in particular) practical for street use? Or at least are they civilized enough for street use?

That mainly depends on 2 things...

They are available in many different lb ft ratings.
And the shocks you are running.

So, you can just a little firmer than stock, or...Why use springs at all? Not that bad, but you get get them in a wide range & Ground Control can advise you better than I can in what to select, based on your intended use, which shocks you have, etc.

What Weight Jacks amount to are adjustable spring perches.

I like the adjustable caster/camber plates too...

Re: Coil overs

From what I understand coilovers will also drastically cut down the available width you have to front tires.

I'd go weight jacks if you actually plan on corner weighting the car for a desired height and tracking it. Otherwise just stick with some decent springs under there.

Re: Coil overs

has anyone done weight jacks with c6 rims? is there any problems at all with fitment. I was thinking about coilovers too but weight jacks sound like less of a hassle. also how much drop can you get from them or is it dependant on the springs you choose. kinda nice the ground controls are Eibach. also anyone got any recommendations on shoocks and struts? mine will be mainly street since the closest track would require a 12 point cage to run any decent numbers since mine is a vert.

The weight jacks won't take up any more room than the standard coils, since the fit i the spring pocket like stock.

Drop is more dependent on where you set the springs too, with regards to ride height.

Choose your struts/shocks first, then Ground Control can match the springs, & intended use, better.

Re: Coil overs

i thought coil overs take less room then the stock suspension, and gives better handling and gets rid of alot of weight

Re: Coil overs

the coilovers that spohn sells install over the strut, thus taking up a little more room that just the strut.

here

see?

that is absolutely true, i didn't mean to mislead, i just wanted to differentiate from the ground control spring setup

Re: Coil overs

I was also wondering Stephen do the caster/camber plates par up to say Spohn's or exceed. They look way different and never saw them until this thread.
