weird stance after suspension rebuild

i just rebuild my entire suspension on my 85, and replaced all the springs with moog replacements, but now my front end sits super high, the bottom of the flare on the fender is about 6-7in off of my tire, and it just doesn't look right at all, will my springs settle? also i have the stock 15x7 wheel with i think 215/65/r15 tires, i haven't driven it but 5 miles yet, so after some time, will the springs settle? or should i just go buy the pro kit?

Re: weird stance after suspension rebuild

make sure you didn't install your sway bar upside-down. mine sat that high and it turned out that the sway bar was supporting the body.

Re: weird stance after suspension rebuild

The springs will settle a bit, but not that much. Did you index the springs to the A-arm? And are the springs properly seated in the upper pocket?

Re: weird stance after suspension rebuild

if your stock springs were super worn out and sagging alot, your car was probably already dropped a little bit, then putting fresh springs actually raised it. ive heard of people putting prokits on their cars and the car being the same height haha

thats another thing is making sure the springs are seated right, it makes a huge difference if the spring is lined up with the bottom hole on the a-arm and if its lined up right with the upper insulator.

Re: weird stance after suspension rebuild

nah i just like to drive my car on my hopes and dreams, yes theres an engine in the car! haha anyways, i just made sure the end of the coil was in the correct spot top and bottom, so unless they somehow moved, which they didnt, their in the correct spot, i have kyb gr2's if that matters at all, and i cant figure out why this thing looks like a mud truck in the front! the backs not all that much better but its not quite as bad as the front

Re: weird stance after suspension rebuild

the springs are not indexed properly. Its common for the front of the car to sit way high if the are off.

Re: weird stance after suspension rebuild

Proper index for the springs is that the end of the spring is in between the 2 smallest holes in the a-arm.

Re: weird stance after suspension rebuild

well i just went out and measured it, but i didn't pull a wheel off to look at my springs as im about to go to bed, but from the ground to the top of the front wheel well is 28 and 1/4 inch and for the back its 28 inches, so i guess their about right, but it just seems to sit so high, are those numbers high?

I've read that 27 1/2" is factory ride height. Using Moog fronts on my car, the height is not quite 27. The rear sat so high I trimmed a bit of coil.

Re: weird stance after suspension rebuild

well i pulled a wheel and saw that the end of the spring was not quite in the pocket, it was about one inch past the pocket, so i it it with a piece of pipe until it was at the second hole, well in the pocket, but thats as far as i can get it without compressing the spring a bit, which i didn't have compressors with me,

and get this, it was 28 1/4,.... well now its sitting at 29!!

what the heck guys? i can fit my head between the wheel and fender!
help please....

Refer to the picture in this thread : https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/susp...ion-101-a.html

Notice the two holes in the A-Arm that are closest together. The bottom end of your spring should be between those two holes.

Re: weird stance after suspension rebuild

how did u install them?did u unbolt both lower a arm bolts, install the spring and then bolt it all up. or did u leave the a arm bolts attached and just pivot the a arm down enough so u could slide the spring in? i did it the second way and had a bitch of a time trying to make sure it was lined up in the upper spring perch. it would all go back together normally but the wheel gap was huge. make sure the upper part of the spring is seated properly. and the end of the coil on the a arm HAS to be between those 2 holesthat are less than an inch apart (finger pointing to them in pic) otherwise it will be sitting too high. when i did mine the first time i had like 5 inches of wheel gap and the coil only had to be rotaed less than 1/2 an inch to correct the ride hight. if infact u have installed them correctly, then either thats how it should be or they are the wrong springs. stuff does get boxed wrong from time to time.

Re: weird stance after suspension rebuild

Have you even DRIVEN the car yet?

Shocks can "set" higher, until compressed by simple driving and settle....

The rubber/poly mounts could be "twisted" into helping to hold the car up...

Since the arms pivots inwards when the car is jacked up, when you put the car back dow, the tires are effectively closer together, inwards, and the mere friction grip of the tires on the floor can be ANOTHER thing keeping the car from settling.

Take a leisurely drive around the block, measure it again, then come back & tell us what you have.

Re: weird stance after suspension rebuild

well you guys were right, the passenger spring was about 180* out of whack... i made both sides right and moved it around a lil bit and now i sit right at about 27 inches ground to the wheel wheel, is that about right?

Re: weird stance after suspension rebuild

Hey thanks for all your help with this guy because it shed some light on my problem too. I too had a front end that i couldnt figure out why it sat so high. I bough the lowering kit and the same shocks he did kyb gr2's and the back dropped and the front actually looks raised up. im going to use what i read on here and hopefully that will solve that problem. thanks alot everyone!
