Tires fit tight 295/65/15

So I got my tires for this season and they are close everywhere besides width. I'm sure someone is going to verbally rape me for putting a set of 295/65/15's (30x11.5x15) on the stock 7" wide wheels. I do like the way they look though:

Re: Tires fit tight 295/65/15

I noticed too how my sway bar link mod obviously works since the driver side is .75" away from the tire and the passenger side is 1.5".

Re: Tires fit tight 295/65/15

Definitely a lot of tire for that wheel. Gonna take some time to find "the sweet spot" on air-pressure.

Re: Tires fit tight 295/65/15

I'm probably going to move the axle forward about 3/8" to give even front and rear clearance, and trim some of the top lip off so they don't hit vertically. Others on here have used these tires without modification, so I'm planning on enough clearance to be there. It really isn't that skinny of a wheel for them since off of a wheel they measure 7.5" across the bead just as my past 275's have measured.

Re: Tires fit tight 295/65/15

that'll be about 1" clearance front and rear? Hmm, should be alright I suppose, you're going to trim the top lip? I'll have to see what you plan, I can't picture it looking right...
Are there only drag radials available in a 295/65/R15 tire? No regular street tires eh?

Re: Tires fit tight 295/65/15

I doubt anyone makes a street tire of that size, but I need the tire height for the gear ratio to go 160mph in the 1/4-mile hehe. You kinda need a picture to see what I mean by trim, lets see if I can quickly. A section of the wheel well right above the tires looks roughly like:

Astriscs are supposed to be empty space
\
*\
**\
***|
*---

And I'm going to make it like:

\
*\
**\
***|

This way has no metal directly above the tire and gives me almost an extra inch of vertical clearance.

Re: Tires fit tight 295/65/15

You might want to look into the proper technique for rolling the lip instead of cutting it off. You'd be very suprised at how easily it and the rest of the quarter will bend/dent if you cut the lip off.

Re: Tires fit tight 295/65/15

i tried to fit that exact tire and wheel combo(it was even a black painted wheel) on my car and the wheel would not sit flush.
ive since modified my wheelwells with some ******* hammer tubbing, but i still think its going to be a tight fit.
whats your secrets?
did you bang any on the wheelwell in the front near the lca mount?

Re: Tires fit tight 295/65/15

I had previously made room for a set of 325/50/15's on 15x10 wheels with a 6.5"BS by heavily hammering the front area by the LCA's, and looks like it should make enough room for these tires.

Re: Tires fit tight 295/65/15

next time you want a tall tire go here http://riverviewtire.com/Tireheightchart.html
and look at the stats instead of using that hillbilly setup with pregnant rims.
if you are going to run at 160 you dont need bad tires matched to bad rims.

Re: Tires fit tight 295/65/15

I don't see where that link was supposed to help me? I can calculate and tell you more information than those charts show, along with they don't have my tire size listed there to begin with. Tires normally have inch dimentions readily available anyways. I know these tires aren't meant to be on this small of a wheel, but I highly doubt they will suck or do something stupid because of the wheel width.

The red areas needed room, the one on the left (rear) isn't needed on the driver side. I hammered in the front side about 1/2". The other areas in yellow should be moved for side wall clearance when cornering, but aren't needed if you don't turn hard. Don't be afraid to really hit the metal on the front sides; I was slamming it as hard as I could with a 13lb hammer.

Re: Tires fit tight 295/65/15

I know this is an old post very old actually but if I run these tires on a 15x10 rim with 5.5" bs would they stick out too much pass the fender?

Re: Tires fit tight 295/65/15

i would not like the look of the 5.5" backspacing wheel. this is a mt 295 on a 8.25" wheel with 5"bs to get you an idea. it completely tucks, but the shot from the back i do not care for. the side angle looks very good. but from the back it looks like truck tires. a 10" wheel would just make it worse, IMO. a 6"bs or 6.5 would be ideal for me, but youll need some surgery

Re: Tires fit tight 295/65/15

Yeah I had seein your thread on your tire install. Just was wondering how it would look with the wheels I have I wanna run the biggest tire without it having to stick out so much. So far tried 28x10.5 the side wall sticks out a bit

Re: Tires fit tight 295/65/15

On a 15x10 wheel you'll want 6.5" BS. This takes some love from a big hammer, but I have run 325/50/15 on 15x10 6.5 BS:

Last season I modded my z28 wheels to be 2 piece and 10" wide. I didn't take as many pictures as I should have when I made them, but here's part of it:

For this season I want to do some cutting/welding so I can use thinner or no wheel spacers compared to what I've been running with those wheels since the backspace is about 7.25" without the spacers.

Re: Tires fit tight 295/65/15

I run the same tires on a 15x10 rim but my rear is 1.5" wider each side. Mine tuck in nice but the wheel wells are tight front and back as well. I only use the tires for the track so I'm not going to mess with the wheel wells. Ran them at the track and had no running with a 1.8s 60'.

I really like the 325/50 look... running that with my 5.5" bs though would it stick out alot I just dont wanna go through having to buy new wheels since there about $400-500.

I want to say rims have 5.5 back spacing but I could be wrong... they are summit Brand 5 spoke knock offs in a 15x10" rim.

Tire is the 295/65r15 MT drag radials.
