removing steering column
hello, i have an 88 camaro without tilt steering. i would like to replace it with a column that has a tilt option. has anyone out there have the answers to how i can remove the column.

very simple. Under the hood, first disconnect the steering shaft from the column.
Remove any plastic panels under the column. There are 3 bolts in the firewall at the base of the column. I believe they are either 10mm or 13mm heads. Remove them from the inside. Then there are two larger nuts towards the top of the column that holds the column up to the dash. Remove them. Unplug all of the wiring harnesses and pull out the column. 30 minutes at the most.

Some headers you have to lift the motor to get them in. Pulling the column might be ALOT faster and easier than that, if that solves the problem. Also, some headers will hit the column, wherever it happens to be in the particular car, since there's a fair amount of tolerance in its mounting location; you can slot the screw holes at the firewall and move the column over toward the fender a little bit, it's amazing how much improvement in clearance just ¼" of that can make sometimes.

Whats the easiest way to remove elec, plugs and cable from column in 3rd gen firebird
ps dont have a lot of room to open door wide enough.
