36mm sway bar, big difference to stock?

Hey guys, I came across a 36mm sway bar, with the x pattern on the outside where the end links go.. Is this a big improvement to the stock 30mm one?

from what I have heard, it is kind of a trial and error things with sway bars. I have heard of people going smaller in one end and bigger in the other and trying different combos till they find what works for their car. I say if it is cheap pick it up and give it a go. If you decide it isn't for you, you can always recycle it on here or E-bay.

It came on a parts car, so it was practically free.. I think it's the hollow one too..

Re: 36mm sway bar, big difference to stock?

If you already have it, give it a try. Sway bars are basically a trial-and-error thing unless you want to get into some heavy math. In my case, I tried a 34 front and 24 rear combo after swapping in my 350 and some good used IROC springs all around and it made the car too tail happy. I ended up going back to my old 19 bar in the rear with the 34 in front. I finally picked up a 36 bar over the winter and am going to try it this spring with the 24 rear and see what happens. If you have the rear bar on the parts car as well, I would try swapping it in along with the front. You might also need to swap in the coil springs as well. The coil springs and sway bars work together to control body roll.

As added info and nothing more: The above combo was OE on my 85 IROC. I added the 36 so that the combo is now 36/24. Difference in handling? I wish I drove well enough to know .

Re: 36mm sway bar, big difference to stock?

Keep in mind that a bigger front bar with no other changes will tend towards tightening the chassis/making it push/understeer. Not saying that your car will understeer but, it will tend toward that, more.

Re: 36mm sway bar, big difference to stock?

36/24 was a stock combo & lots of the owners that push the handling limits, tend to reduce the rear size 19,

I want to swap my 24 for a 19, but that hasn't been a big enough priority for me.
