Factory installed Check engine light for finished brake pads
Factory installed Check engine light for finished brake pads
I read in my car manual that 92' camaros came equiped with sensors in the brake that light up that brake light in the odometer once the pads are done. So far never seen that light come on. The only obvious way i found out i needed brakes, squeeling, and putting my foot through the floorpan to stop the car. Could the sensor be broken, is it true if such a factory option was available for 92' camaros. I dont think mines is broken cause when i start up the car the brake light goes on then off.

Never heard of a wear sensor on the '92 Camaros (not even on the 4th gens). What manual are you reading? I really don't think its correct.
As for the light coming on, havn't you noticed that all the lights come on when you crank it up? Its called "bulb check".

Pretty sure the only function that light serves is to let you know your parking brake is on. Besides, thats like saying that you should wait for your oil light to come on to change your oil...even if thats how it worked, i dont think you should wait for the light to come on.

It appears you are misunderstanding the information. The light WILL come on if there is a loss of fluid, which would mean that the BRAKE SYSTEM needs repaired, but it will not come on if its just the pads wore out.
If you look at the combination valve (aluminum block w/ brake lines coming out of it under the master cylinder) you will notice a wire coming out of it. This is the "Pressure differential switch" portion of the combination valve. A loss of fluid wil cause an imbalance of pressure in the valve, and will trigger the light to come on.

thanks guys, just one more quick question. On top of the RPM odometer there are those sensor lights such as service engine soon, etc. I see an oil level sign but it never lights up. Even when i start up the car. Could it be a bad bulb or that my car dosent come equipped with that type of sensor. Never had an oil pressure or level problem. so what could be the problem.

It was an "option" for the V6 cars. Its easier for GM to put the lens in all the cars, and then just wire only the "optioned" cars.
