Anyone had a bent aluminum wheel fixed?

I have a small bend in a front formula wheel. Where have you had them fixed and how much did it cost? Thanks

Hi,

I had a bent '85 IROC rim and called 3 wheel repair places and got the same basic reply... it's junk.

GM got the IROC rims from Canada. They used a cheap grade of aluminum which makes repairs, welds, etc hard to do and hard to conceil. I was told that the costs of labor, shipping both ways, etc would be so high that it'd be cheaper to just buy a used one.

I don't know if the same holds true for Firebird rims, but I'd guess it probably does.

Wheel repair, while rather complex, is not rocket science. I have had a number of GM aluminum as well as aftermarket magnesium wheels repaired by Rennsport. The repairs have been undetectable. Prices are based on wheel size.

The wheel I need fixed is 16x8. What would they charge for that?

The best thing to do for a quote is to call or email them from the link above...

I called them and they said they don't fix wheels anymore. Any more places?

Boy, you're right; a real bummer as they did a great job for me in the past! I originally found them after doing a query on "wheel repair" on Yahoo a few years ago. You might want to try that for someone else...

Someone pointed me to www.neww.com 1-800-503-0081 They will straighten a wheel for $75 that is the cheapest yet. They are located in New England, they said 4 business days and they would have it at my door. I am going to call the guy(Allan) that acutally does the work tommorow morning and ask him if it will need to be re-polished after he is done. Just thought I would let you guys know, the lowest price before them was $109. He also quoted me a price for a brand new Formula wheel at $166 is that pretty good?
