Struts installed wrong?

I just put a set of Bilstein struts on my car along with a set of UMI's caster and camber plates when I finished my C5 brake conversion. I am unsure about one thing though. Where the rods from the struts stick up through the strut mount, the one on the driver side sticks up about 3/4 of an inch higher than the passenger side one. What is causing it to do this? I can get pictures if needed.

Re: Struts installed wrong?

Any chance the springs are not seated correctly? I had that happen once. Of course with that, there would be a small difference in ride height from side to side that would be measurable.

Re: Struts installed wrong?

How can I tell if the springs are seated correctly? Should they be sitting against a certain spot on the control arm?

Pictures of the top of the strutmount, and the underneath of the strut mount please. I am assuming from your statement that you have everything bolted in place already since you say "I just put a set ...on"

Re: Struts installed wrong?

It sounds like the one strut didn't get fully seated on the bearing, so it isn't poking through far enough. Pictures would help.

I need to see up inside the bottom of the strut mount. You have something not allowing the drivers side to insert fully into the bearing

edit, opps- went bavck and looked at the pic again- Ment the passenger side is not correct.

Here is the best shot that I could get.

Re: Struts installed wrong?

How does that dust boot attach to the top of the strut? I know there was no way my stock ones would work with the Koni's. Maybe the boot is preventing the strut from seating.

You will have to pull the dust boot out of the way. It should pull right down or else like 87350iroc stated you may have it caught in there somehow.

Re: Struts installed wrong?

You can see how the strut shaft goes flush against the bearing underneath. If it is not sitting flush against, or has a washer ofr something not intended in there under the boot then most likely your problem lyes hidden under there.

There is a thicker stepped portion of the shaft , then it narrows of course as it channels through the strut mount bearing. You can see the thick section of strut shaft in the pic I list below.
