Re: 83 camaro front struts

impact gun will do it, or if the struts are already trash, put a pipe wrench on the strut shaft then break the nut loose.

Yes the struts are trash, we are replacing them.. We got the passenger side off now, but the driver side sheared off at the top of the nut...

So now what? Do we need to just hot wrench it off now? Can you find a replacement bolt ?

Re: 83 camaro front struts

The issue is that the strut rod spins inside the strut - now that you have it out, stick it in a vise to hold the strut rod and turn the nut off with a wrench/rachet.

good idea.. I think the strut mounts are in pretty good shape... How often does one replace those?

There is rubber in the mount, so after nearly 30 years, I'd say replace.

Yeah we were just trying to get that driver side strut mount loose from the strut...

I think at this point two new strut mounts would probably be in good order with two new struts...

Better new than sorry later...
