Lifting points with scissor lift

Hi, I bought this scissor lift.

This pic shows the lifting points :

Only problem is that the front lifting points are not supported by the platforms of the lift because they are too much toward the middle of the car.
Just about on the sideskirt there is a like a double wave or roundness in the frame. Are these reinforced parts where i can safely put my rubber pads under?

Re: Lifting points with scissor lift

Personally Id get some weld in subframe connectors if using that style scissor lift. As is id be worried about it crushing the pinch weld and messing up your gfx

I would also recommend subframe connectors in order to use this lift. Every thirdgen I have ever worked on has been damaged by people trying to jack them up somewhere along this pinch weld. The most common result is that the front fenders bulge outward.

lifting by the place you put the arrow in your pic, will DESTROY the car.

In the drawing showing the jacking points, the red marks are the best place to lift the body.

Re: Lifting points with scissor lift

The red marked jacking points are not directly above the platforms of the lift.
SFC's are not allowed in Belgium. I could get in trouble on the annual inspection. Besides i think the SFC's would hit the lift when driving over it.
I could place a wouden or steel bar across the 2 platforms and then lift on the red marks. Would a wouden bar of about 3 cm (1,25 inch) thick be enough, that's about all of the space i've got.

Re: Lifting points with scissor lift

Would you trust wood while you were under the car? a 4x4 block yes. I use those now and then on our full size post lifts. Something only 1.5 I wouldnt.

I know it would be a PITA but you said annual inspection You could always put in bolt in SFC's. The car should make it over the lift just fine with them. I have a scissor lift at work too and have taken lowered vettes over it. Just gotta go slow.

If bolt in sfc's arnt an option either. I would get the steel and modify the lift with some braces / bars etc that would reach good lift points.

I'll start with this.

Still find it strange how the area round my yellow arrow seems to be made to fit a universal jackstand. Well maybe it was when our cars were new and GM didn't count the frame to weaken so much and on us keaping these cars for over 20 years
Either way, you guys convinced me NOT to use these points. Thanks.

I've been wanting sfc's for a while. What brand could pass as an original GM-piece the most and will give no problems with driving over my lift?

Re: Lifting points with scissor lift

Ok, i found a safe way to lift the car using the drawings red lifting points.
When lifted the chassis has to carry the engine and complete front end. I dont have sfc's (yet).
Is it too stressfull for the chassis to be in the air like this for a longer period of time or do i have to lower the car at the end of the day to let it rest on its wheels and lift it again the next day?
