rear end sway bar links help

i have a 86 camaro rs was v6. i changed rear end housing's and was going to use the bigger sway bar that was on the new one becouse it was bigger. how do i know what size end link bushings what (MM) do i need to buy?

End links are about 2½" long for these cars.

Bushings are whatever size the bar you have is; measure it with open-end wrenches right where the bushings go.

The sway bars, front and rear, are matched. I'd stay with stock unless you swap both bars from a donor car--or are tuning the suspension. Spohn and TDS sell bushings and end links.

i found out i have a 21 MM sway bar on the back rear end but what size would be the match for that on the front?

32 is the usual mate to that, which is likely what you have up front. (pretty much, the minimum for these cars)

They're not "matched" to the degree that they only exist in specific pairs. It's more of a range that makes sense. You have some freedom to change the rear, within reason; especially of you're changing springs as well.

A rear bar that's "too big" to go with the front one would tend to make the car "loose" when it reaches its traction limit, i.e. the front will have more traction than the rear, i.e. the car will want to spin out, especially if your driver does the typical "panic" move of stomping on the brakes and yanking on the wheel at the same time. They'll back the car into the outside wall. "Too small" of a bar on the rear gives the usual factory behavior, which is, the car is too "tight"; the rear will have more traction than the front, which makes the car not turn at all (front wheels slide instead of the car turning) which is generally safer for inexperienced (typical street) drivers. The car will slide head-first into the outside wall.

This is usually only a problem with SEVERE mismatches. A 21mm stock bar isn't generally going to create that situation.

You can also go to AutoZone and get Energy Suspension parts hanging on cards in the "Performance" aisle. Change em all out on both ends of the car at the same time, you'll be amazed at how much bang for the buck those things are to the overall feel of the car.

the 21 mm rear bar is the one i just put inn. the one that came on the car was a 19 mm on the rear... so both rear bars 21mm and 19mm both match with a 32 mm in the front?

Yup...

They were used with different packages of springs, shocks, tires, & owner expectations.

one last question how about the iroc-z what size sway bar front an back did they have? was they any diffenents in the spring between the iroc-z an the z28?

Most of em had 34/24, or the hollow 36/24. (about the same stiffness as the 34, just MUCH lighter)

Depends on year.
