I have a complete 2015 Camaro ZL1 as a donor car for my 87 Iroc. What do you guys think about converting the iroc to the electric power steering setup?
Are you doing the power steering swap to save weight? Save power?
Was just thinking it may be easy enough vs adding a power steering pump and there seems to be some benefit to it. I have the entire car so I am just considering hat I should keep and what I should ditch.
If I were in your shoes, I would make the attempt to convert it. In the long run it will be less things that have to be deleted out of the programming. It'll probably be an overall easier package as well instead of having fitment issues with the LS engine accessories and the steering gear box.
Depends on if the rack is in front or behind the k member. You my find that you have to do some heavy Fab work to do the swap. You can check out the thread on putting a C4 k member on a 3rd gen for some ideas.
There is a guy that made a control box to convert Cobalt SS and G6 EPAS for use in kit cars. Not sure how it would apply to the Camaro EPAS. But I remember it was interfaced with the steering column itself, and not the steering gear.

I am hoping there isn’t a ton to it. I have absolutely everything less a few lights and smashed up body panels so it will be nice to see it come off one car and onto the next.

I just got a price on a heidts crossmember and full suspension including IRS. hoping that gives me more mounting room up front.
You can make is happen, but it will work like complete garbage.
3rd gens use Long arm MCStrut suspension.
5th gens use a short arm MCStrut suspension.
Modern Racks arnt wide enough for our cars.
the end links end up being like 24in+
you will end up with a bump steering monster.
Not to mention the ratio is 16:1, so that's SLOW compared to the 3rd Gen Z box at 12.7:1
You can easily use the 5th Gen LSA and brakes.
The tr6060 will need a different tailshaft.
Or if it's a 6 speed auto, y'all gonna have to do some hammering to get it to fit in our 3rd Gen tunnels.
Answer?
It's not worth doing all that work for a crappy setup steering.
Rebuild the stock linkage
Get a name brand rebuilt Box ($300+)
Use a proper alignmealignment.
bump steer kit if needed
those will get you the nicest steering a 3rd Gen can accomplish.
