Cam that wont break $h|T
my car decided to grind out a cam bearing sooo it's time for a new cam.
I want to put a little preformance cam into it but as I am broke nothing else in the motor is gonna change ('cept for the lifters of course) what I really wanted to know is how big can i go before I start needing valve springs?

You can go with the LT1 Z28 cam with the stock valve springs. You can gain some peak rpm's with a little stiffer spring but the cam will run ok with the stockers.

What kind of lift / duration is the stock lt1 cam? the cams i'm looking at are summit kits (can't beat 80 bucks for a cam kit)
p/n dur @.50 lift
sum-1100 184/194 .368/.398
or
sum-1101 194/204 .398/.420
mabey a lil larger? I;m not really looking for a preformance cam - it's broke and needs fixin (the car will get a 350 when fast time comes) and $80 for almost everything i need is pretty good. It just looks like i might have to drive this biatch for a lil bit plus it will be cool to have finally done a major mod : )

i wouldnt waste my time with those cams...they arent roller either so im not sure if it would work. lt1 cams are cheap...i got one for 31$ on ebay i dont know for sure if its a lt1 or not.

LT1 Cam:The duration at lash point in degrees at .050" tappet lift (intake/exhaust) is 205/207; and maximum lift with 1.5:1 rocker ratio (intake/exhaust) is .447/.459. Valve lash is zero/zero and lobe centerline is 116 degrees._
Specs vary slightly year to year on lt1 cams but not enough to make a real difference. They are all a LOT more than TBI cams.

Did the TBI 305 come with a roller cam in 88? I would be really really suprised if it did.
