ok, installed a performer manifold. when i start the car, it runs perfect, for ten soconds, then soon after, when i it the gas, slow revs, extreme loss of power, no mis firing, no rough running, runs SMOOTH ....just acts like a 6 cyl. this performer is non egr, could this cause the problem??? any ideas? model # 2101.
You need to do that. Check out here. He can do everything for you. http://www.tbichips.com/
The EGR error will just throw a code, if that, it won't cause the issue you're having.
First thing is go back to basics. You installed an intake, so you had the distributor out as well.
Make SURE all the plug wires are installed correctly. It will shock you how "smooth" a V-8 can run with the plug wires off, but only at low RPM's. IF that checks out, make sure your timing is okay. This is the problem most of the time when the distributor has been removed.

No, if it was off that much it wouldnt run. I think the egr could be a problem because if the computer thinks it's getting it when it's not then it will advance the timing and it won't run right. Your problem is in the timing definitely. Have you gotten your timing light back yet? If not, you need to do that now! There is no sense in trying to find out what the problem is until you fix what you KNOW is wrong with the car.
ok i JUST got it back.....gonna set the timing to 8 degree advanced in a min...i was worried i put the dist in a tooth to far right of left, but thats easily fixed by turning the dist right?

The erg not being disabled wont cripple the computer. It'll pull some timing but it will still run decently. The disty being off a little bit could be it, pull it out and stab it in again, shouldnt take but a few minutes just make sure you're at tdc on #1. A small vacuum leak might cause it, or maybe just a bad wire. Just re trace your steps, you'll find it out
Good luck man.

Good luck man.
I didnt think the distributor could be off by a tooth, only 180 gegrees off. It only goes in 2 ways, right or 180 degrees turned around, or atleast this is my experience. Every one ive changed just dropped right in. Then you just adjust from there.
Turning the distributor will either advance or retard the timing. I don't believe you can turn it to get it in a different tooth. You know when it is down in there. If it's not in right it will not go down all the way. There are only 2 ways you can have it go down in: the right way or 180 degrees off. Is that what you were saying? I could have misunderstood what you were saying though. If so, please feel free to correct me.
the flat head shaft deal on the oil pump turns very easily, it can accidently get turned a lil and the dist do it slightly off, but if you turn the dist, as if you were advancing it, ...itll go to 0 eventually, and be right, even though the dist is like bass ackwards with the #1 plug facing your firewall lol

Bring the motor up to TDC#1. Put the distributor into the engine so that when fully seated the rotor is pointing to the sparkplug hole on Cyl. #1. Now put the cap on so that the rotor is facing BETWEEN #1 and #8 cylinders. It'll fire right up, THEN SET THE TIMING.This way your #1 cylinder plug wire should be right by your throttle brackets kinda, like it's supposed to be.

Yeah, I don't think the EGR is your issue here. EGR is only added after the engine is up to temperature and when your MPH and RPMs are above a certain point. You would be suprised how good a V-8 can idle with only 4 cylinders firing right at idle.
