cam and intake help
ive been reading alot on this site about part selection and tuning. but i need some help. i am building a 350 to replace the 305 in 95 p/u truck. i want performance but it is my daily driver so i need reliability also. i am getting world torquer II heads. the block is provisioned for roller cam so ill put one in. i was deciding between a comp cams(210/220 @.05, .500/.51 lift, 114*lsa) and the zz4 cam(208/221 @ .05, .474/.51 lift, 112*lsa). are these way to big to run with my tbi? would i need a 454 tbi? i cant burn my own chips so will it be a nightmare getting a custom chip from someone that works. should i use a carb intake manifold like the weiand 7525? i do need egr to pass emisions in arizona. which ones work best? i would like to here from people using these cams to see what manifold, tbi s/u they are using. i would like to have a lower rpm torque engine since im not racing it at all and im going to use my stock torque converter. my cruising rpm in o/d at 75mph is about 2100 rpm. i would like to good passing power and ill probably never see over 5500rpm. any advice is appreciated. thanks

I think your part choices are really pretty good, but when you say you can't burn chips for it I'd have to say they turn into bad choices. Mail order chip will never tune in a 350 with aftermarket heads and a cam like a ZZ4. It will take quite a bit of tuning. Buy the equipment and get into it now, it really isn't hard.
Most of these guys here are still buying these tbichips.com chips and I just noticed that he's charging $70 a chip now, it used to be $30. That's a huge ripoff! He's steadily increasing his price because he knows he can. You can spend probably another $70 and have all the equipment to burn your own. Just put some time into it and you'll learn it quick enough, experience teaches fastest. But don't bother with a $70 shot in the dark.

ebay a laptop. You can get something that will fit the tuning needs for under $100 easily.
What are the uses of the truck. Both cams are what i would call, small, for a 350. If you plan on using this for 4x4 and towing duty, you're probably in the ball park. If you are going to be using this at the stip, and want more upper RPM performance, I would go bigger. Heck those cams are about ballpark for what i would use in a 305.

the truck is used for daily driving. it wont be at the strip at all. but i would like some performance. after driving with a stock 305 for 7 years my right foot is ready for some power. it does need to be reliable and fairly easy to tune though. its just 2wd and it might be towing on occasion but very rarely.
Dewey316-how radical do you recomend? what cam, intake combo is good with torquer II heads? thanks.

for some descent mid-range, and still being freindly with teh convert. I would shoot for the 218-220 intake range.

You may also contact Comp Cams or similar and present your build to them. I would look for a cam that makes a lot of low-mid torque, based on your needs. They will likely make a recommendation similar to those found on this thread, but at least it will provide some confirmation and an exact part number.
