Dyno tune time...finally!!!

Well the purple beast goes for a dyno tune and a chip burn tomorrow. Finally got everthing taken care of and its ready.

I would like every to take a guess as to what the horse power will be with all the mods I did. The mods are in the sig. Keep in mind the final piece will the the custom chip they are going to burn after having it on the dyno for several hours.

Lets see who gets the closest.

I will start if off by saying 255 at the crank and 220 at the wheels.

Lets hear some other informed guesses.

240 HP @ the crank

300 lb/ft @ the crank

Good luck.

EDIT: off-subject, but what's your opinion of the aluminum driveshaft mod?

224 hp at the wheels.

I'm very interested in what you report since your setup is very similar to where I'm headed.

Gunny,

The drive shaft mod is one of those that will never make a difference by itself. With some other small mods added up it helps. But the physics is good, less rotating mass uses less horsepower.

91red,

Supposedly they have a mustang. But I have not seen it. I'll ask tomorrow.

And what's even better than both is track slips . Really though, a dyno number is nothing but a number used to tell you if you're making more or less power than baseline. Too many variables in the equation but if I were to guess I'd say 219.7 , what do I win if I'm the closest?

AZ, did you use the 305tpi heads? If so I will agree with Gunny on 240 at the crank with tuning. Should be about the same as a 305tpi with headers and tuning. My guess would be 218hp at the wheels.

I would say at least around 220 HP at the crank if they know what their doing. People here seem to have been able to make that with just bolt ons so I imagine a good tuner could easily surpass that if they set it up right.

The shop is ADS - Automotive Diagnostic Specialists

They are on Chandler Blvd next to the Harley Dividson shop.

It's hard to say because they are also going to look at my overheating problem (I think it's tune related). But they told me going into this that it could cost anywhere from $500 - $1000. depending on how long it was on the dyno.

I'm gonna have to go (based SOLEY on the sound of this beast) a couple grand at the rear wheels No seriously folks, I'd have to say 235 and the rear wheels. And for those that didn't get to see it already, watch this vid of azvolfan's car...

I don't think mustang dynos are that forgiving unfortunatly. He should be in the 14's though. That is what we should really focus on. As Dewey said, he basically has a G92 car with a full exhaust, better upper RPM power, and all tuned. Car should be loads of fun even with the L98 cam.

Based on the ported 416's, Full Exhaust, and an intake that's been around the block quite a few times, I'm gonna guess 225 hp and around 300 lbft at the rears.

I am intersted in finding out what she pulls at too since I more or less have the same set-up minus the suspension mods right now.

Sounds liek most of you guys figure around 200-220 at the rear. I am no expert but dont you think that is a little aggressive?.....but then again what do I know....regardless lets see what happens....I am interested in seeing what happens with this one for sure!

Bill.....so you gave up on the DIY burning eh.....

09/2003 dyno run was 220 HP rear wheels for me. 12.1/1 A/F on WB. phase 2 will be 12.7/1 A/F on WB with change of cam/manifold and 1/2 as much AE. air temps that day was 85 F with 100% humidiity. plan to run at 50 F and see what happens 11/2004.

peak HP was at 5000 rpms. which is exactly whre the cam suggested it would be. i dont recall where the peak TQ was but it was a very flat curve and peaked at 267 ft lbs.

I didn't really give them any parameters for the chip. I probably should though. I'll talk to them about it, but for now they are working the overheating problem. Found a bad fan relay and a bad temp sending unit.

Are you still running the stock single fan Bill? Might be time to install a dual-fan setup with a manual switch...

Yep, still running the stock setup.

What I would like to do is a Be Cool radiator with their dual fan set up. Only runs $1100.

If you had a bad sending unit and a bad relay, I don't see why fixing those and maybe going with a different fan switch wouldn't help it enough

I need to get around to putting a new fan switch in mine doesnt kick teh fan on already replaced the fan motor as it was bad when i got it.

I need to talk to speed inovators out here for mine, they basically told me once its dynoed they will sit down with me, go through every thign that is done, what i want to do and how much power is acheivable through a chip. We'll see cant wait to see what happens with yours.

UPDATE.............

Well the fuel pressure was way too high. It was at 18lbs. The adjustable regulater would only go as low as 13lbs. So looks like it's back to a stock regulator. They are putting it on now and will keep me appraised.

Just got another call from the shop. The stock pressure regulator is on and the fuel pressure is down. It passed emissions with flying colors. It is next up on the dyno. He said on the dyno now is a Mustang Cobra with a Wipple Super Charger on it and they showed 667 hp on it. Plus it has nitro which they did not use on the dyno.

I said "Hey...Chevy before Ford!" He laughed.

When I went there to get my A/C done I was talking with the mechanic working on my car. In the parking lot was one of the most beautiful Shelby Cobras I had ever seen. I asked him about it, and he said it was a kit-cobra that dynod at 750hp and the rears. I bout jumped backwards and he said "Yup, thats one beast of a 502!" I thought for a sec and said, "Wait, isn't a 502 a chevy engine?" He looked at me and said "Yup, you wanna make a Ford run right, drop a Chevy in it!!"

I died laughing........
