It Never Ends...

just got my trans in, got the car on the road, now this..

throttle response is ABOMINAL! step on it, sometimes it downshifts, sometimes it doesnt, in any case the motor rarely jumps like it used to. thought it might be the old gas, drove it off, put in new fuel, no change.
base timing is set at 5-6* advanced. thinkin the tv cable may need adjusted causse it seems like it shifts hard at WoT.

wtf? any clues fellas?

yep, tighten up the adjustment on the tv cable some, test drive it, and adjust it some more, decide how much pedal you want to give before it downshifts.
:edit - it takes about 4 seconds to open the door, pop the hood, and adjust it

There really isn't any adjustment on the tv cable. As for where you want it to shift you don't want to do it by the tv cable. Thats what shift kits, govenors, corvette servos and kick down valves are for. If the tv cable isn't set correctly it can and will shorten the life of your transmisson. The stock or correct way to set it is to make sure the tv cable is tight at wot. If it's loose then push the release button in and pull the cable back to the point that the inner housing is even with the front of the button mech. Then all you do is depress the throttle peddle to WOT and the cable will ratchet itself to the correct position.

I meant to say adjust the kickdown cable, to adjust the sensitivity of downshifts

thats his point, its not a kickdown cable..
it controls line pressure and what nots so it needs to be adjusted properly, again like he said
some people claim the bracket bends a little when you let it ratchet itself into place, and i agree, so i pull it out a notch or 2 more after that

k im the thread starter under a new name..

adjusting the tv cable made a HUGE difference. it should really be a sticky in the tpi/tbi boards on how to adjust it because it made the car feel SOOO much better.

having lots of fun powersliding the corners now, got new tires waiting, so the old ones are goin up in smoke.

the car has gone from feeling sub par to better then ever with only changing the timing and tv adjustment.

going to the track tonite i think, ill post results tommorow.
thanks for the help guys!

The proper adjustment for the TV cable is MAXIMUM tension at WOT. This is important for the life of a 700-R4. You want to have the most line pressure you can get. Its usually a good idea to adjust the cable by hand with the throttle wide open. The self adjusting mechanism may or may not give you the proper tension. Do some searching on the trans board. IIRC, the user 'Transfixleo' has posted the proper method for adjustment several times in the distant past.

yea it kinda seems like its shifting high right now. it didnt ratchet at all when i set it and i opened it all the way up at the TB. i know that my throttle cable doesnt pull open the tb completely but i dont know how to adjust the throttle cable. when its off and im in the motor compartment it has almost a quarter inch of slack between the **** and the throttle i need to get up in the foot hole and see it theres and adjustment on the pedal bracket to tighten it up.

those two issues seem contrary, the tv cable seems to be reading a higher throttle amount(higher shifts at part throttle) yet i know that the tb isnt opening as fully as it did when i set the TV so it should, if anything be reading lower.

the car however, is running fricken great, i really need to hit the strip to get some hard numbers but its putting me back in the seat from 70- 105, it used to be a dog past 90 mph, its like it actually has a powerband.

i think this car may have had a computer tune before or possibly a cam because like i said, with those minor adjustments and the addition of mid grade gas instead of low, its like a new machine. as though it was tuned to go with the setup im runnin and i just never hit it before. next step is high test..

how do i adjust the friggen throttle cable?
