416 heads

I'm thinking of buying some 416 heads but they have been cleaned up and the springs are like new, so the question is will the lt1 cam and 1.6 roller rockers work with the stock 416 heads? Also, will these heads just bolt on to my 92 lo3, I know the intake is different which I got cover with a 86 and lower rpm intake. Wondering what head gasket and intake gasket get for it, like the tbi gaskets or the tpi gasket. Thanks

I would be leery of running the LT1 cam with 1.6's on the cstock guides. You can get away with it if you switch to an umbrella type valve seal. If you want to use a positive seal and run a lift value over .480" you will have to have the valve guides cut. Running 1.5's may be the better choice.

Any reason why you are going with the 416's? Unless they are ported your stock heads will make more power below 4200 rpm. With only the LT1 cam you won't really see any improvements with those heads (unless ported).

And, if you port the 416's, use the RPM intake, 1.6 rockers, and LT1 cam, you'll most certainly need to get a chip burned if keeping TBI - especially if you add headers.

Do I need a new fuel pump if I have the lt1 cam and the new heads on? The fuel pump is a new stock one. Can 416 flow the same or better then the 081 heads when ported and 3 valve job? Also if I have air to fuel gauge would that work the same as a wideband o2 sensor?

Also will the 416 bolt on without probs. I also have the right intake for that year heads perform rpm intake. With tuning what kind of hp number is it going to put out?

The 416's are the same basic head as the 081. The 081's were a later version that accomodated the different intake pattern and center bolt valve covers. I also believe they had non self alligning rockers.

The heads will bolt right up but you will need different valve covers. The A/F gage that you have is not the same as a iwde band O2. The gage you have reads the narrow voltage values of the stock O2 and lets you know at part throttle if you are rich or lean. It is very inaccurate to the say the least and is considered a "narrow band" O2 (small range). A wide band 02 will tell you your A/F range over every RPM point. It is very accurate and crutial for WOT tuning.

so shifty are you saying that I couldn't use my 1.6 rockers on the 081 heads.because they are self aligning i believe.

You should be able to use them. I am not 100% but someone will chime in. You may want to shoot a quick PM to Dewey316. He runs ported versions of these heads.

It will be close but I would plan on replacing it soon. Sooner or later you are going to want/need to increase your fuel pressure to a level that the stock fuel pump will not be able to support. FWIW, I will never do a cam swap with the stock pump.

It depends on what injectors you run.
