Engine Lift plates
Anybody ever use one? Will they work with our TBI intakes? Here are a few I'm looking at.

I dont think that those plates will work. If you look at the pics you can see that it bolts to the carb/intake mating holes. Stock TBI manifolds dont have the holes in the same place. What it does..or at least should have are lift "tabs" bolted to the manifold/head mating bolts - on drivers side back bolt and passenger side front bolt (or vice versa). You just need the chain and hook (not to be confused with the ball and chain). Thats what mine had anyway. You can use an tbi/carb adapter plate which will mean your engine will be held by 3 bolts....hmmm
iron block + aluminum manifold / 3 bolts =
your call.

I'd just like to have something where the engine could be completely assembled outside of the car, then hoisted in. It would just be a little easier(or a luxury).

Use the stock hooks that already exist on your intake. One is near the front the other is near the rear. They were used by the factory to install your motor. Have used these successfully to pull and replace a motor.

If you do want to buy that plate, put a TBI gasket on it and drill your own holes for it. try to center it up as good as you can and then you can pick up carbs and TBI with you plate. I dont think it would be that hard. And 3 bolts is plenty to pick up and engine. Everyone i have ever seen pulled only had 2 bolts and the was no problem with them.

Last time around I got one of those load leveler deals from one of those traveling tool shows that come around occassionally for $20. It worked out real good for me - especially since I was by myself.
Harbor freight sells the same thing. I'm sure you could find it around for less like I did. I used the chains that came with it, a few nuts and bolts...

The old intake is cake to take off, then just reuse the bolts and that 4 point hoist on a good cherry picker. Don't cut corners during the install process that could cost you $$$ if something goes wrong. Just my opinion and no those adaptor plates won't work with a TBI system.
