My car keeps stalling... Embarrassing

Okay yeha my car stalled in front of a big group of people today (see the FIRDAY post on THEORETICAL DRAG RACING board). My car stalled FOUR times today- TODAY ALONE. Heres what it feels like...

The car begins to lose RPMs and it sounds like the engine is hitting really really off. The car struggles to save itself, but sputters out and dies. Then it takes a few seconds to start it again, and will only start at WOT. And even then it inches up on the RPMs, releasing a huge cloud of black smoke. It usually takes an additional 10 seconds to start after it stalls.

Before I pay millions of dollars to have a mechanic guess and check what my problem is, what do you think is wrong?

Well, if it's not throwing any codes just check and recheck all your sensors and replace any that you have doubts about. Most of them won't run you too much and you should be able to change them yourself without too much trouble.

Check the fuel pressure. Mine was acting a bit like yours and turned out to be the fuel pump. It was only putting out 4 pounds which it should be around 13.

i have had 2 similar probs on my t/a one was the throttle position sensor (TPS) went bad kept stalling & flooding itself out a quick fix when it happens (if that is the prob) just to get you buy is to unhook the fuel injectors, just the wire plug (mine was tbi, and i dont know if yours is) and crank it til she starts, the plug it back in

Take camarorsrs's advice. Clean your throttle body. Carb cleaner works just fine. You may also want to remove and clean your Idle Air Controll solenoid. On a MPFI or TPI setup it will be the thing sticking up to the top left of your TB. Just unscrew it, hose it off, then, hose the air passage off also. Do it w/ carb cleaner, mind you.

I just had my injectors cleaned a few months ago. The car stalled before then too.

Try the temp sensor, just fixed the same problem on a peice of crap ford(mercury sable). It wouldn't start if warm unless you floored it and the it had hesitation in the throttle and black smoke. My car,89rs305, has had the same problem since I got it 11 years ago buy that sensor has been changed so I am currently in the process of narrowing it down. It only happens to my car about once every 2 months and I have no black smoke so check that sensor thing I told you about.

My car was doing the same thing when i accidently broke the temp sensor when changing the manifold. The connection was still on it, but very loose. I taped the connection and no more problems.
