Stock TBI what's first

Have a 89 TBI stock. What are some good cost effective upgrades to make it a little spiced up. I already am planning on the hooker catback system, but what else is a good investment. I'm not interested in changing the stock gears, but I would love to have the upper hand on some imports.

Read the ultimate tbi articles first. Get your car tuned right, then add things like Open element filter, headers, 3" catback.. Once you get done with that, then Intake, cam, head and ignition work, but thats another story and major bucks..

the ultimate tbi mods should be first. after that a posi and some 3.73 gears will make a big improvement.
don't worry about adding power until you have everything set so you can dead hook with the gears.

I run edelbrock headers w/3in y-pipe, high flow cat, single 3in. pipe all the way back to a 3in. Flowmaster (transverse/camaro style). Sounds great! Before I put it on the car it got a couple coats of high temp gloss black paint to improve looks and fight rust.

after the ultimate tbi stuff, now would be a good time to get a posi and soem good gears into the car. 3.73's are about the best for a tbi car, worth about 5tenths at the track.

Listen to Tim and read his sig. Not bad for a LO3! Don't be conserned with MPG with your overdrive.

Headers and Posi. Headers are the single best way to free hp on an LO3, and you'll need a posi to get a halfway decent launch.

my buddy installed edelbrock headers, and full 3in exhaust on his 89 305 TBI camaro, and the thing is slower i think. the car has other problems i know, i am in the process of trouble shooting it. please refer to my other post on the board, any help would be appreciated. most people i have talked to have had good results from exhaust, me us though.

Is an open element air filter a good way to go, also is it cut for TBI or is it the same as a 4 barrel carb cut, then is there room for the air temp sensor.:d
