More power
Alright, I won't get around to any of these mods until maybe midway through summer at the soonest, but i'd just like to know before I start anything.
I'm going to eventually be doing heads cam and an intake probably, for my 305, i'll probably go with a used set of heads, i'll be fine with some TPI heads personally, either an LT1 cam or maybe a comp cam (but i would need help selecting a comp cam because i'm not sure which one i would need for a TBI computer controlled car) can someone help me out there by suggesting a good comp cam part number? And i'll buy one of those popular edelbrock intakes, performer, rpm, w/e they're called.
But before I do this i was wondering if I should probably rebuild my motor, it's got 220,000 miles on it, there's a rebuilt kit on summit

Do you guys think it would be a good idea to rebuilt it before I swap in a cam, heads or anything?
I'll have time before I get everything for the project, i'll probably select a cam first because it's usually cheapest, then heads (i could probably get from the junkyard, maybe pay someone to port them, or buy them off someone here.) then an intake.
But I just wanted to know if I should probably rebuilt the motor first, I don't want to take the whole motor apart and install H,C,I only to put it back together and throw a rod a month later or something, you know?
Thanks alot if any input.

Re: More power
REALLY...Under 5,000 rpm vs a stock TPI head, you will se NO benifit and below 4,500 a power and efficiency loss. If you Port the TPI heads, the crossover point is still above 4,000 with a cam bigger than the LT1.

kkingsrulee, do a search and you will find this has been verified on the dyno.
Focus on doing the exhaust and TBI free mods first. Then a cam.

Re: More power
Keep in mind the odometer just rolled over to 220,000 miles yesterday so i was way off wanting something that provides power ABOVE 4000 rpm, and not much below, i'd blow my motor for sure

Re: More power
Can't believe noone has said this yet. But yes you should rebuild a motor with that many miles before you do a cam and heads. I mean you can do anything you want to it, it's your car, but that's a lot of miles. The intake isn't so hard to do, you could maybe do it first, but if you got the time/ money, yes do the rebuild and cam together at least. Or all of it together if you got time and money.

I probably will end up swapping a 350 in there, but just in case I don't

Re: More power
Rebuild kit looks good, with the exception of a timing chain . You would definitely want one with those kind of miles. But I would suggest that you do a 350 if your going to do all this. You can pick up a 350 pretty cheap in most cases.
