I have about 95k miles on the car right now. What has to be done to get a new cam in? Just take off the timing cover, gears and pull out old one and put in new one?

Or do I need to take the intake manifold off? What must be done?

remove all belts (or serp belt), valve covers, rocker arms, pushrods, intake, lifters, harmonic balancer, water pump and pulley, timing cover, timing chain and upper gear, and then the cam. if doing in the car then remove radiator and condensor. i'm sure i missed a couple little thing, but you get the point.

What gaskets are needed for the swap? Also, would it be worth it to put new timing cian/gears in. BTW, my friend is convinced that my car does NOT have a roller setup, does anyone know where I can get 'official' (read: GM released) info that says it does (i know it does, but he wants proof, and I like being right, lol)
Thanks

Your car and the LT1 both have roller cams. Period end of story. the truck L03s didn't which might be the source of the confusion if your friend has a clue enough to even know about truck LO3s.

valve cover, timing chain, and intake gaskets. since '87 the f-bodies have roller cams.

well then have him call a dealership and give them your year, make, and model car. they will tell him what it is. other than that, you would need a TRW book that lists engine parts.

Yes, I am a moron, so dont ask, but is there a big 'ole reference on cam shyt that anyone knows of. Something that would answer questions like "Tell me about valve lash" And "basic points on swapping cams" and such. If anyone knows of a syte/book out there like this, PLEASE let me know. Thank you
