TBI Setup - Critique Me!!!
Hey guys - I've just successfully dropped a 355 into my formerly 305-TBI Camaro, I've got the Holley TBI unit and a few other toys on it, i'm wondering if you experts could gimme some suggestions as to what would be good to add. THANKS!
TP (17yrs old / HS Senior)
1988 IROC Camaro
355 (.030 over / forged pistons / powdered rods / balanced)
1.94/1.50 late-model heads / ported / polished / port matched
Holley 2" Bore TBI Intake
Crane Compucam (440/454 lift) (212/218 dur)
~10:1 compression
Edlebrock TPS Headers / Y-Pipe
3" in / out high flow cat
Open Moroso 3" Element
The electrical system is stock right now - i'm looking at a new coil setup
New Year One Interior (Carpet/Headliner/Kick Panels ect...)
Grant Steering Wheel
Trans-Am Racing Seats (I'm looking for a cover kit - HELP!???)
1 1/2 inch Eibach lowering kit
KYB Shocks
700-R4 Tranny
*I'm guessing the motor is around 330hp b/c it was rated at 270 when i tore it apart (it came out of a boat) and the cam I put in was a little bit higher w/lift and duration (I ran the numbers)
THANKS FOR THE FEEDBACK!!!!
PS - How's this sound for a lisence plate "PNY KLR" ?

Um...this is kinda unfair, but I worked at a machine shop in town for 1 1/2 years - during which i built my motor. So I magged/cleaned/buffed/ported/polished/matched/cut (the valves/seats) all myself. I'm probably certain you don't think a kid could do all of this - but i had some really good tutors (sp?). I even balanced the rods/pistons and assembled it myself - so I've got my head into the car for more than exhaust tips and chrome.
Any other questions u can fire away. Oh yea, I also put in brand new valves and used different springs - the stock equipment was junk. Hope this helps some...

sounds like a strong combo. your hp guesstimate should be in the right ball park. i would look toward a little more cam in the future, the 350 can handle it. is that cam a roller or flat tappet?

Your setup sounds just like mine. Mine even came out of my boat too. Same hp and everthing. I just haven't swapped mine. How do you like that cam, cause its the same one that I've been considering getting? How was the install. There souldn't be much fabrication from what I can tell?

well...
There wasn't much fabrication - but there were some obstacles:
1) The EGR (I used one off a 1985 IROC 305) didn't fit under the TBI. I had to use a 1 to 1 1/2 inch spacer to get it to clear and even then it was a little tight
2) The TBI Unit (Holley) had to be rewired into the cars harness - just follow the directions they give you and you're all set
3) The stock cruise/tv cable/throttle bracket didn't fit the Holley intake - so i have no cruise right now (I used the bracket holley provided)
4) The Edlebrock headers were a snug fit where the Y-pipe bolts up, they took a little prying to get into position perfectly
The Holley intake was the biggest pain I encountered - just be patient with the brackets and mounting the coil (just TRY to find 2 bolt holes on the intake that match
) and you'll be ok.
