Click, Click, Click, then engine turns over?

My '91 Z28's starter doesn't always engage. I thought it might be ignition but was told it is the starter getting hot due to proximity to exhaust and that I need to replace OEM starter w/sml hi-torque
performance starter (not sure what their called) anyways, I'm not completely convinced as this will happen when engine is cold. Has anyone else had this problem?

if it's a hot start only problem buy a good mini high torque starter and if it's a cold start only problem it'd be smart move to replace it with the high torque starter, or you could go OEM and be doing it again some time down the road

Car: 1990 Pontiac Trans Am

It could also be the ignition switch under the dash. The contacts wear out and dont make a good connection.

Car: yy wife, crazy.
Engine: 350, Vortecs, 650DP
Transmission: TH-350
Axle/Gears: 8.5", 3.42
I'm not saying anyone's wrong but my car used to do that until I replaced the battery.

The battery just quit on my one day and after the R&R, I've never had my starter do that again. :hail:

Maybe just a fluke, but it worked for me.

Car: currently thirdgenless!!!
I have been living with this problem for almost a year. I replaced the starter and it still did it. I replaced the starter again 3 days ago and it seems to have cleared up. We will see what happens in the future.

If this did not happen I was going to go with the mini-starter. I have heard good thing about them from people who have them.

my car does the same thing. its gotta be the solineiod on the starter. I just havent gotten around to replacing the starter. it does it al the time and sometimes it will click 10-15 times before it will engage. this pisses me off if i stall the car at a light. i look like a retard that cant start his car.
