Where To Buy CVR Starter

Thank you to everyone who told me what I needed to do to fix my starter problem. Now, could someone tell me where I can buy a CVR starter. I've checked with all of the parts stores in my area and also checked with Summit. I looked at the CVR website and found what I need but it did not have any type of dealer locator or any way to buy direct. Thank You.

Don't get that starter, it's crap. I've been having electrical problems for over 6 mo and that pile o crap was the problem the whole time. The starter only lasted a whol whoping 9 months. Then it wouldn't even crank over. After calling CVR, they qouted me a price of 120 dollars to fix it and ship it. i bought it for $150 with shipping included. Jegs is who sells it but if you want a mini starter just like it, get the Jegs ministarter. Looks exactly like it and you get it in a reasonalbe time.

Sorry about venting but I'm still pissed about that POS.

Thanks for the input CRAZ-28. Does anyone else have a comment? Because, now, I've heard two exactly opposite things about the CVR.

Why not just get an LT1-style starter? It's smaller, gear reduced drive, and fits!

Will any year LT1 starter work? Camaro, Firebird or Corvette?

I'm still going on the original starter in my van....130k miles and it was meant for a 4.3. When I increase my compression to 9.8:1 I don't think it's going to like it

I have the CVR one that has both bolt patterns, for both the 168-tooth and 153-tooth flywheel. I haven't had mine for very long, it's hardly even dirty yet, so I can't speak to its long-term reliability; I've only had it for about 3 years and 30,000 miles so far.

It has worked for for me. I find it vastly superior to anything GM has to offer. Their starters seem mired in the 30s as far as the technology level. This little Hitachi spins a 400 about 3 times as fast as the OE 305 starter would spin the OE 305; it spins thta 400 at least twice as fast as LT1 cars spin. Most of the mini-starters I've seen are either Hitachi or Denso motors stuck on an appropriate block of aluminum carved into an adapter plate; their manufacturers (CVR, etc.) don't make the motor, only the block which serves as the "nosepiece", so their electrical reliability should be the same as the starter motor would have if on some other aluminum block such as a Toyota or Mazda one or whatever.

I would not recommend getting any starter from GM if you want an improvement over your stock one.

I've being using a CVR starter for about 4 years and have never had a single problem with it - it works great. I spun over my NA SBC 427 with almost 11.5 compression with ease, and it has no problem starting my twin turbo SBC 427. I also have a couple friends with the same CVR starter and they've them for about 2-3 years with no problems that I am aware of.

Call Cliff at Barnett Performance...800-533-1320 ext 229. They're similar to Summit or Jeg's as far as what they stock, but their prices are usually better and they have similar shipping policies. They carry CVR and several others, including Powermaster. They're in Atlanta.

(Cliff's a 3rdgenner too, drives a 92 TA)
