Distributor Clearance with new Edelbrock intake

I instaled an EGR intake on the Camaro and now it leaves about at 1/4 inch gap between the distibutor to the intake when the gear is fully engaged to the oil pump. I havent played with it too much put it seems that the facing for the distributor to manifold is lower on the Edelbrock intake rather than the stock cast iron one (Yes, iron cause the car is Canadian.

It was an interferance installation... the pre 87 one on the 87 heads... but other than this and the redrilling of the 4 intake bolts there was no other issues.

What's up with this? Anyone else get that?

I would like to put my money into a few other places before a pricey aftermarket distributor... are there any spacers or seals I am missing?

Ty for any help...

So is the only remedy a splip collar distributor?

Sounds to me like the dist isn't on the oil pump properly, even though maybe you think it is. There are no other possibilities.

Never heard of a splip-collar distributor, it's never really necessary because there's so much tolerance at the oil pump drive when everything is assembled correctly.

Ditto:

You've got the distributor in backwards.

Yeah the oil pump drive probably isn't lined up.

KK... ya you are probably right. I think that I must have bumped over the engine or something with I was installing other stuff and screwed up my pic of the rotor position.

Ty guys and I will keep ya posted.

You know how to fix it?

I don't know much, but i know my way out of that one..........I always get laid on bottom because it seems like I can only screw up!!!!!!!!

Anyhow, if you need to know how to get everything back on line so you can drop it in correctly, speak up.

As long as the rotor points to the right cylinder at the right time, you can put it in any way it fits.

The distributer may be a tight fit like mine was....took some work to get it down in the brand new motor but it went.

It will only go in 2 ways so keep trying.

You can take a long screw driver and turn the oil pump so that you can line it up to #1. The distributor only fits in 2 ways 1) the right way 2) 180 degrees out <--- the wrong way. It really doesn't matter though. As long as the rotor is pointing at the number 1 plug then its fine. You'll just have to shift the firing order over. Remember that from the right just before the box (that includes the wire for the tach and the rest) the order going clockwise is 2-1-8-4-3-6-5-7.

Good luck,
Brian
