speedometer

now where do you guys think i shoud start if my speedomete dont work it threw chec engincode 24 which is vss defective you think that is problem o where would you guys start

first of all, have you done any repairs on the car when this started. I would start by inspecting the wiring and sensor at the transmission. a scantool is a good tool to watch VSS signal through the ECM.

His car should have a cable speedo, not an electronic one. The cable is probably broken...........

I figured being a 350 car it would be automatic which I thought was electronic. I know my t/a's have electronic on automatic tranny's.

even though his car is an '89, it still will have a VSS, so the computer will know when to lock up the TC. but i would of imagine that a cable is broken or the wires are bad. after my car had sat outside for a few years without being driven(before i owed it) rust had gotten into the VSS and froze it up and broke the small cable. but some oil and an universal speedo cable fixed the problem.

'89 was the last year of the cable speedo in the Camaros. The F-birds got the electronic speedo earlier....around '86-'87.

thanks for the help guys now is the vss and cable located on the driver side of the tranny?
