Gas smell???

Hello, I have a dumb question, I smell gas in both my Formulas! Both are '91 and one has 140K and the other 10K and both had fuel filters changed, but at times it smells of gas and I feel like a dork driving theese clean mean machines and cant find the problem. Anybody else have this third gen problem? Andy

Does it smell like it is coming from under the hood ?? Check around the charcol canister. My smell was so strong I thought I had a fuel leak. But it was in canister area. The hoses were not sealing tightly. I added metal hose clips on the hoses where they entered the canister and that solved it.

As stated above, check to see where its coming from? You may have an O ring that is not sealing correctly too. This isnt easy to find though. Check the canisiter first. also check and see if the fuel pressure regualtor looks wet. the diaphram may be leaking small amounts of fuel.

The canister is that huge black cylinder behind the driver's side headlight.

Check if your gas cap seals properly, even after I nailed the fillerneck problem, my gas cap didn't seal well allowing fuel out on hard turns...
