what intake can fit under hood and run 6000 rpm's

i am running the edelbrock performer and a carb now. i tried raising my low rise air filter about 3/4 of a inch wich is how much higher the RPM is sapose to be and i cant get the hood closed. does anyone make a step up in manifolds that will fit under the hood of a stock 86Z28 hood?

Brian

The GM intake on the ZZ4 easily goes to 6 Grand and clears stock hoods.

I've gotr a Torker II, 1" TBI adaptor, and a 14"x3" open element under my hood. It's damn close, but the hood closes.

Does the Wiend Stealth fit? With either a Holley or Edelbrock? I'd like to know.

One more for the Torker II. I've got a Holley 750 sitting on a 1/2 inch Nitrous plate, and it clears.

BTW, the only reason I shift at 6200 is the stock lifters. By mistake, I've shifted at 6500, and it pulls hard all the way there.

Well I've got the RPM under my stock 87Z's hood using a drop base 14x3 inch aircleaner assembly. The wingnut rubs the hood so there is no room for a non drop base aircleaner.

i was just checking uot the specs on the torker II and it looks interesting! it has a low profile but is a single plane intake. how much bottom end are you guys loosing with this intake? can it still be a nice daily driver?

thanks for all the feedback

I've got the Performer RPM 7101 Dual Plane Hi-Rise intake on my 305 with an Edelbrock open element air cleaner that drops over the edelbrock carb. It seems to fit "ok".
I'll have pics online tomorrow evening.
I like my new setup a lot, lots of torque (I can smoke the tires all day long) and lots of top end. If my tach is correct, I got my car to nearly 160mph one evening. 4000rpms in 5th gear.

Well, heres my .02 ! The stock alum. 1984 Z28 intake measures 2.940" in the front and 4.316" in the rear. If you have an NOS plate & gaskets it will measure 3.591" in the front and 4.967 in the rear. (Nos plate = .521" and (1)gasket = .065 (.130") for a total of .651"). I have a 14" x 3" drop base, home made alum. duel snorkel air cleaner. I put silly putty on the air cleaner in (5) places. Front, rear, center, left side and right side and closed the hood. (Frt = .700" Cnt = 1.300" Rear = 2.300" R/S = 1.900" L/S = 1.800") So there is alot of room with a stock Z28 man. For you Holly guys Weiand makes a real nice 360* man. called the X-CELerator #7547 that should fit with no proublem. For you Q-Jet guys Weiand makes a 360* man. called the Team "G" Street Ram #7525 (may also be called the Stealth) that should also fit. DO THE MATH!!!

P.S. You may have to cut off the bolts that hold the hood opening covers.

I have an RPM manifold, NOS plate and a drop base aircleaner on my 84 HO. It just fits but I have the power bulge hood from 84. The wing nut from the aircleaner goes into the bulge.
