Broken Sensors in head
I just got done installing a set of headers on my '87 TPI IROC.
Anyway, which sensor controls the temp gauge?
My IROC has 2 sensors in the head:
1 on the passenger side that has the black "mushroom" shaped end....
another that is on the drivers side that has a single wire clipped onto it....
IDEAS?

While we are on this subject....does anyone know how to get the "plug" out for this sensor on the driver's side head? I bought a crate motor and well this location has a plug in it. It is not a hex style hole. It is a square hole, almost like a driver bit would fit in there. I have tried a 1/4" driver and it is too small. Then i tried a 3/8" driver and it is too big. The hole is between the two sizes. Any ideas on how to get this plug out so i can get my sensor plugged in and i can get my car on the road? thanks for any help

I just had the same problem. Only thing I know, and what machine shop told me, was to get a 3/8" and file it down to fit. I used an adapter that had 1/4" rachet end (female) and 3/8" socket end (male). I used my die grinder and a stone to grind the edges down until it fit - the plug came right out.

Thats a good one! Maybe i'll try that tommorrow. Seems like it would work. I tried using a big flat head screwdriver, tapping it in there, and twisting, but that with a couple other ideas, just did not work! Thanks for the tip. I'll report later! lol

Thanks for the links. While i was at Pep Boys looking around their horrible tool section, i asked a few guys in there. One guy had told me that there was such a tool. Its just that this style of plug is not very common anymore and the tool would be a little hard to find. I thought that maybe i could find it or possibly get it ordered through Napa. It was too late on friday to hit them up so i'll have to wait till monday. If this idea does not work tommorrow i'll have to find the tool for sure and do it the right way, or should i say the ideal way! thanks again guys

hey no problem
your right though its not very common, i can only remember running into one of them thus far
it was on the rear of a yukon, IIRC, the gear oil drain plug was held on with a different size, so another guy at work took his old distributor wrench and grinded it down a little so it would fit
