Do 3rd gens need traction bars?
Do 3rd gens need traction bars?
Ran my 3rdgen for the first time at the strip yesterday. Ran 14.9. I chirped bad at the line. Will traction bars fix my problem? WIll it be a simple bolt on or will any mods be needed? Thanks

I have had success by installing tubular control arms, dropping tire pressure and either loosening up the front sway bar or better yet removing it.
Judging by your ET, you may only need to put a set of stickier tires on.

get some sticky tires like BFG drag radials or M/T et streets.
get an AIRLIFT airbag set for third gens for the rear springs.
Tightens up the suspension, allows R/L preload bias adjustment,
adjusts pinion angle and lower control arm angle
(instant center) Without affecting normal driving. (let the air out)

With the above mentioned changes, I was able to run mid 1.6 60' times on Mickey Thompson Competitors. These are a full tread street tire that is not a wrinkle wall. Traction on a mid to high 14 second car should not be a problem.

NOO!! don't use any type of drag radial or anyting of thr sort, stick to normal street tires.. You have a 350 and a T-5 trans, if your do it you will most likly be investing is a new trans. Just get some relocation brackets and some lower control arms. Then just get used to the car and learn how to come out of the hole the best you can and you will be fine.

what does removing the swaybar do, anyway? Alow for more even loading on each of the rear tires when it launches?

I think taking off the swaybar softens up the rear end, which makes it more tractible.

Removing the front swaybar will allow the nose to rise higher on launch and transfer the weight to the rear wheels. Yes it will have an impact on drivability, the car will lean like a barge in corners.

not only that but it can cause your car to oversteer in turns if your f/r weight ratio is still close to stock. Thats interesting about the sway bar. I didnt know it hindered the suspention travel of both of the front wheels when they extend at the same time.
