Ashtray!
Ok I've yet to see this topic ever discussed...but how do other thirdgen owners keep the ashtray cover closed? I just leave mine open, but there has got to be a place to get replacement springs or something...

I have done some ashtray work myself. First off I routed a bass **** for my subwoofers up to the ashtray and drilled a hole through the tray and now my ashtray holds a bass ****. MY spring broke too, so I jsut took it out, it works jsut as well with out a spring.

mine is open. i constantly smoke while i drive.
I remember when i first got my camaro, and started smoking shortly after. A friend of mine said, "camaros and smoking go hand in hand".
boy was he right.

I dunno if you smoke or not, but I don't and was REALLY interested in the new Tech article on how to turn your ashtray into a two-can cupholder....looks sweet.

Both were in good shape on my driver and donor car (both had obviously been occupied by smokers). I didn't know that was a weak point on them. I've been flipping mine open and closed for 14 months. Currently it holds an assortment of secondary rods and hangers.
Now, the console arm rest is another story...

hey,the part number for that latch is: 1001-8171, It cost me $3.50 at the local GM dealer, they had it within three days!! no need to deal with that cover constantly flipping open while your driving!
