Drivers side fan refuses to come on

Drivers side fan refuses to come on
Ok, I have a JET 195* fan switch.
Lately I noticed my car hasnt been cooling as efficiently as before.
Ok, usually the fan switch engages after 195* and cools to 180* with BOTH fans. I looked under the hood today and only the passenger side fan was working.
I have a manual fan switch I rigged, usually it turns both fans on. I flipped it on and the drivers side fan STILL didnt come on.
I even cussed at my fan and threatened it with a jack handle. Still didnt work
Any suggestions?

the motor is burt up. run a jumper from the battery and see if the fan runs then. if not it's a good bet the motor is shot.

Better yet, remove the corresponding fan relay and jumper (short) the two sockets with the large diameter wires connected to them. One wire goes to the battery positive terminal through a fusible link, the other goes to the fan. (The relay switches these points.)
The can be off when doing this test since the wire comes directly from the battery.
This test will not only test the fan motor, but also the associated wiring, including fan motor ground, and connections between the fan motor, relay socket and battery.
If the fan does not come one, I would check for +12 at the relay socket. Perhaps the fusible link opened. Otherwise, a bad ground could be the cause.
If it does come on, then suspect a bad relay (either contacts or coil). Does the relay click when the fan is turned on? If so, then perhaps there is a bad connection somewhere.

Stuart has the right idea: wire the fan directly to the battery to make sure the motor is bad. That way you can isolate the motor, and rule out any other possible problems. But be sure to get a wiring diagram so you can figure out which of the terminals on the fan motor is positive and which is negative. Because if your fan motor is still good and you wire that sucker up backwards, well, lets just say it won't be good for very long.

The fan motor runs $20-30 at a parts store. The dealership will want $90-100 a piece.
try the electronics message board, I just finished a fan battle and there are many fan war veterans there also. good Luck
