1st one is the heater control valve.
it makes it so that the hot coolent only goes to the heater core when the heat is on.
the 2nd one is the blower box. since its a AC box, you have AC stuff in there too.
the "correct" way to remove it would be to get a heater only box. do a quick search and you'll find everything you need on that.
if you just remove the AC core thats inside there, you'll have a big rectangle hole that needs to be covered... and you dont gain much space..
another option is to cut that box, and 'glass it to a thinner shape...
i actually did that with the box on my 82 since i couldnt find a AC delete heater only box.

so in that second pic, theirs heater equipment inside as well?
maybe i can remove the cover so i can remove the pipes that stick out that used to go to the ac equipment, then put the cover back on for a cleaner look?
sound good to everyone?
and also in the first pic, to the left of the circled object, theirs that plastic square box, i notice theirs a hose that runs to the smog pump, so im assuming i need to keep that as well?
damn smog laws

lol
you're doing this but you have to keep smog!? you might as well just put all the AC stuff back on..........
anyhooo
the air comes from thru the firewall at the blower motor, thru that box/duct...
it blows thru the AC, then into the dash... somtimes thru the heater core and somtimes just to the vents...
if you remove the piece inside there, not only will you have alot of wasted space, but you will have that hole im talking about.. you'll need to cover it so engine compartment fumes dont enter the car...

you need what is reffered to as a "non a/c" box... it replaces that entire assembly, eliminating the condensor inside. it lays much more flat against teh fire wall, and opens up a lot of space.
