Which Cam?
Which cam is going to be the best for a stock motor w/ headers and exhaust? The motor is freshly remanufactured. Any help or opinions are welcome. Thanx.

Your question is pretty vague.
What heads are you running?
Any modifications in work on the TPI?
Do you want to program it?
Gears?
Stall?
Compression?
What's the goal in performance you would like to achieve?
Headers/exhaust?
I went with a Hotcam in mine, but I did a lot of things to make it work good with my combo. The TPI intake in stock form will run out of steam around 4500-5000 rpm, so unless you change something to make it flow better, you need a cam that will make low end torque.
Good luck,
Charlie

Motor is stock running stock heads. Only mod to the TPI is a TPiS Airfoil. I want to eventually reprogram it. Stock 2.73 gears (they suck). Stock torque convertor and compression (which i am not sure what stock is). I want to eventually have around 375 rwhp maybe more. Hedman longtubes, gutted cats, and glasspacks.

It is a roller cam, but i was told that it was 2.73 rearend. i am looking at the possibility of putting a 3.73 posi in it in the future. regardless of which gears are in there now, i like the 3.73 a whole lot better.

I was thinking of dumping my roller cam and going for a flat tappet performer rpm i know this sounds a strange idea but roller can are very expensive in the UK.
that setup should be alot better then stock roller shouldnt it?

375RWHP is going to be more than your stock heads and TPI can handle. TPI usually won't make much over 300rwhp, even with heavy porting. From the factory your compression was 9.75 to 1. It should have had a .029" thick head gasket, 64cc heads, and the pistons should have been .025" in the hole. All of this is subject to be different since your motor was remanufactured though.
Your heads should be 083s which are pretty good after porting and larger valves check the casting numbers though. You need to look at some other members combos and make your decision based on what works and what doesn't. I am pretty happy with mine but it isn't making 375rwhp.
You are going to need programming too. Speed Density is going to throw a fit with the reduced vacuum you will have with a large cam in it.
Good luck,
Charlie

I don't know if the flat tappet cam would make much of a difference, but if you do that and can see a noticable difference post up and let everyone know. Better yet take it and have it dynoed before you replace the cam and then after and post the graphs.
As far as gears go, is the car your daily driver? 4.11s are a little harsh for daily driving but they are great if it is only used for racing.

its a sort of daily driver and a little bit of racing but mainly street racing on occasion...obviously not exceeding speed limits..!!!hee hee.
i am not worried about gas mileage if i was then i wouldnt be bothering to do any think to my GTA...
Thanks for the info.
My GTA is shortly to be carbed only and i have already manage to sell the tpi system as in the UK we have a shortage of tpi cars here......Most of the cars here are Either pre 88 or post 94...

Thanks for that info Insomniac. I will definately look into seeing what others are using and what is working. I didn't figure that the stock parts would be able to handle that much power, but i do have plans of swapping things out in the future.
