Will a dual fan setup from an IROC properly cool my 435HP engine.

I am currently running a mechanical clutch fan with underdrive pullys on my 84 Camaro and was wondering if an electric fan setup would keep my car cool? Do you see and HP gain by doing this or am I just wasting my money?

one of the hot rod magzines did a story on this not long ago. if i recall the set up you have was the best as far as mechanical fans go, but the eletric fans made more power, or freed up more power.

Thanks for posting ede! You are one hell of a regular. I wonder what kind of power increases could be expected? My Camaro really gets hot at the strip! I was wondering if the underdrive pulleys were just too much and an electric system was the way to go? Unfortunately all electric fans in Summit and Jegs do not seem to support my HP level.
Oh wait I have Edelbrock headers that means I am running like 100HP. Nevermind I don't even need a fan! BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA! J/K

it was in a magizine in the last few months, i read hot rod, CHP, and car craft, so it'd have to be one of them. sorry i don't keep my old issues. i think there was about 20 hp on a 400 or so hp engine to be gained or lost depending on what fan set up was used. stock 4 blade, flex, clutch, eletric, and maybe a few others.

If you dont have a well fitted shroud around your mechanical fan, it will not cool the motor.
A dual electric will cool you down quick at idle...I just leave mine on at the track, and the temp stays right where my thermostat is. Should keep you cooler on the road too. That is, as long as there are no other problems (like a TCC that wont lock, but that's another story).

Well my bird always has run hot 190-220 with a 160 themostat. With the clutch fan. But since I put a dual fan setup out of a 92 gta, It sat on 160. I will find out this spring if will keep the new motor cool. It should be close to 425HP.

I just swapped to dual elec. fans. (not stock, they are about 1" larger in radius than the stock ones and took some creative mounting). They move a lot of air and are better than the clutch fan was. If you have an overheating problem you'll probably have to go with a larger radiator before you go with a better fan set-up than the dual fans.

I have an IROC radiator and an external tranny cooler, so that is not a problem.
I also have a TCI full manual competition tranny without lockup. I have to leave her in third to keep the temp down.

The best fans to run are Spal. When I was at the PRI show, I talked with everyone that sold fans and/or radiators and Spal was the best. I am switching over to a dual Spal fan and a Mezeire pump. Anyone want to buy a Weind pump (for a BBC), the aftermarket electric fans or a Morso electric drive kit?

I swaped in a dual electric fan setup from Permacool or something. Good kit and moves a lot of air... but it still didn't seem to cure my overheating problem. I think the underdrive crank is the biggest culprit, and second or tied with that is the 16yr old stock radiator that will be replaced this spring.
Right now, my temp for the water stays at 160 and the tranny temp soon reaches and stays around there too. Come summer, I bet those numbers will rise a bit if I don't get a new radiator.

I swapped to a dual fan setup from a 4th gen for $100. Car runs 180 in Florida. Best of all, I wired one fan to come on first, ans then the second a few degrees later.
