The subject pretty much says it all. I couldn't figure out why my car wasn't starting and then I yanked on the cable and it came right out of the connector. I haven't had any luck crimping it and solder was my solution. Unfortunately, that's not going to work here. What do I do??

Here is what you do:

1. Measure length of cable
2. Go to local Autozone
3. Find cable that is proper lentgth
4. Plop $10 down on counter
5. Go home & install

Problem solved!

Okay, how about a serious suggestion:

Heat shield!!

Either wrap the cable with something or get creative with sheet metal. Just a suggestion off the top of my head. Good luck!!

Am I missing the point? Customizable cable? How special can a 2 gauge wire from the positive terminal to the starter be? A heat shield will not really help any (if you have ever installed one and if I am understanding what you are asking...).

Cables are cheap and easy to find in all sorts of sizes and attachments.

Take your old cable to a good battery shop. They will make you a much better quality piece out of welding cable and crimp the terminals on in a way that will not come loose.
Heat is always bad for wires and electronics. I use heat shielding on my own cars for both wires/starter and the exhaust.

Welding cable is high quality copper with hundreds of strands versus a 10-20 for the auto-zone version. The welding cable will pass much more current.

good luck
