stock carbed 305 if it matters any..
Ignition is stuck in forward position, it did it once before and came back after playing with it for a while, but now its stuck for good
Before i start ripping the steering column apart, i was hoping you guys would have an idea of what this could be, hopefully its something small and cheap
thanks a lot guys...

lol...QAtransam...i have exact the same problem man....on my 92 bird...my dad came home from the store and said the car wont shut off (at the same time my a/c went down for some reason) im i was like WTF?!!! so i tried to shut it off but i couldnt so i had to disconnect the coil in order for it to shut down...then like you said i played with it for a bit and it snapped back to its original position (before it looked like it was overturned) then it happened again and at this time it doesnt want to go back
so i dont know what caused it

Good luck, let me know how you're doin with that, i'll do the same....
Ok excuse me for being a total idiot...
But without breaking anything, how do i get the plastic behind the steering wheel, that covers the column OFF?!?!
i see where the seperations are, but i dont want to make it worse, by breaking anything else.

By plastic piece behind the steering wheel, do you mean the bowl plate (item 127 in the picture) or the round plastic piece underneath the steering wheel? TGO Supporter

Okay,
I'm back, had a bad case of the munchies. Let me get this straight so I don't send you a lot of probably useful but irrelevant information. You want to take the plastic cover behind the steering wheel off, correct? This is the piece that has the lock cylinder, hazard button, and turn signal lever right or the piece behind that.

However, after researching a little bit, it looks like that may be impossible without breaking...it looks like i need some type of tool that...i dont have of course to pull the lock plate off. I think from this point on...i have to work inside this plastic piece.
I guess i could buy the tool, but that sucks for a one time usage type thing i wonder if i can just rent it from somewhere...
This car is in restoration mode, but i really wanna get this taken care of...
let me know what you think man

Okay boys & girls,
Are you ready for this, I know it may look hard but it is easier than it looks. So hang on to your patoootie. BTW, the tool for removing the lock plate is rather in-exspensive and well worth the money.

Great stuff man...
one thing....
The root of this problem is almost positively the lock cylinder right?
so all i have to do is get in there far enough remove the screw that holds the lock cylinder in place, and just replace the cylinder ?
seems easy enough, i'll go see about the tool tomorrow
thanks again
