Where is this water coming from?

My L69 305 has a bad water leak somwhere, it leaks on the exhaust Y pipe and is very hot.
I have replaced both radiator hoses and water pump, my radiator shows no signs of any leaks. Where else can this be coming from?

Sounds like a freeze plug. Or maybe and quite possibly one of your heater core hoses

If it leaks on the Y pipe, then look around the back side of the intake manifold, or maybe a heater hose or even one of the heater hose pipes? Things like this can be a real pain, but it's just a matter of searching patiently.

I agree with the freeze plug idea.

There are 2 at the rear of the block also, between the engine and transmission.

Hopefully its not one of those.

Take a good look, maybe have it pressure checked and make sure where its coming from.

If it's a freeze plug than I'd bet there is more than one bad one.

thanks everyone, the heater hoses are capped off at the water pump and intake manifold so it can't be that. are freeze plugs expensive to repair?

It depends on what one or more are leaking.

If its the ones in the rear of the engine, you have to remove the trans to get to them.

If its under the motor mounts, they too are a PITA.

No No No the last post before mine is incorrect you do not have to take the trans out there is no freeze plugs by the rear main . Before you spend some cash at the garage try gettting a vile of aluminum seal its 3 bucks and could stop your leak for a while or all togather.

Umm...for lack of better words...wrong.

I've been replacing those freeze plugs that "don't exist" above the rear main for over 15 years.

There are 2 freeze plugs back there. Trust me, I'm looking at 3 SBCs right now in my garage.
