c4 or lt-1 camaro?
c4 or lt-1 camaro?
hey guys, im trying to decide if i should go with a c4 corvette 85-90 or so. or a camaro z28 93-97. thing is, during the summer it will probably be a daily driver and i don't know where i will be in 2 weeks. could be out of state on coop. i found an 86 corvette with some paint fades for 6500 with 60k on it... lots of records... but its also a nice 6.5 hour drive away. im trying to decide if a 93-97 camaro would make a better car in my situation or be more reliable. i mean it would be 5-10 years newer, but chances are the mileage would be higher also... HELP.... i like the look of the corvette better i think, but more room and also more performance (as far as speed) out of the camaro. but at teh same time the corvette would handle much better. do you think one or the other would hold its value better?
thanks,
Tj

The C4 Corvettes are nice cars. My uncle has a really nicely-kept black '84 CFI Corvette. From talking with him, it sounds to me like they are just as reliable as any other car (TPI prolly even more so) and they make good daily drivers. The fixes too, when they do have a problem, usually don't cost any more than a F-body would, unless its a Corvette-specific part.
I think a Corvette would probably hold its value better than a Camaro would. They usually have alot less mileage than Camaros do too. My Camaro was hardly driven by me or the previous owner, and its at around 95k miles. Thats not bad for 21 years old. But the Corvette has around 70k miles I think, and its 20 years old. Just as an example
His 'Vette is for sale for $14k Canadian (last I heard, could be lower now). I think its a bit high, but I've seen similar cars in the same shape for around 9-11k Canadian selling pretty easy.
A Corvette would get you alot more attention too, lol... and the ladies love it when the top is off (ask me how I know

) 4th gen camaro or c4?
well im looking for some more performace than a third gen and a little "step up" from what i had before... i had a 90 camaro with a 305 it was fun with the t-tops and sort of quick, but the 2.73 gears tamed it pretty well.
i found a nice 94 camaro with 80k on it asking 6900, i think teh corvette is gonna fall through cause the guy didn't hav eht e title. i was supposed to go buy it saturday but he still had a lein on it and didn't realize it will take 7 days to get the title sent back to him... so i couldn't ahve the title or get the in transit registration for the drive back. so no im back stuck 4th gen camaro or c4 corvette.
gf pretty much despises both, but the corvette moreso i think. my dad is totally agains the corvette and i woudl ahve to get my own insurance, so i think im gong camaro. which he doesn't think is the best idea but mroe reasonable i guess... don't ask me waht the difference is....
i do liek the independant rear suspension of the corvette liek is aid though and it would be pleny quick... and i love targa tops... t-top is second best though....
still looking for opinions... and thanks to those givin..

camaro or c4?
third gen with better combo- yea that would be nice, but not really an option right now...
this is going to be a daily driver at least through summer, may have to tuff out winter but i don't plan on it.
i used to think the 4th gens were ugly, but the more i look at them i don't mind.
c3's just too old right now besides probably out of my price range for a nice one, like the c4's better anyway....
biggest problem with the c4 is that its gonna be 500-1k more a year for me cause i could prob get my dad to continue to pay at least half of the insurance. none on the corvette and i wodl ahve to have my other car on it to have my own policy.
but its looking liek you guys are leaning toward C4 huh?

I'd definitely take a Vette over a 4thgen... I know a few friends moms that drive 4thgens. How often do you see your friends mom in a Corvette?

Call me crazy but I'd much rather have a lt1/t56 car than a c4. I do not like any corvettes besides the new c5s. They are nice.
Not to mention a lt1 car would be easier to mod and much much cheaper. Corvette performance and replacement parts are usually much more expensive.

does anyone ahve any numbers to support one costs any more than the other?
i think ts going to come down to where i ahve a coop. if its in my home town.. corvette, if tis out of state in boston, camaro....
figure if i have the camaro i can have one car on the road and a little better mileage, cheaper etc. if i have a coop right in my town driving will be much less and cost of living less, so i can more easily afford teh more insurance. i think the ins cost between the two is actually compairiable, but if i have the camaro i can have it on my dad's policy with him payign half, corvette im on my own with and would ahve to insure my grand am at the same time to get a policy...
