Just finished FIRST engine build...YAY

Hey guys I just finished my first engine build...here are the parts I used... Stock 4 bolt non roller block with Hyper pistons, 10.3:1 compression, Edelbrock Performer RPM aluminum heads, Edelbrock Performer RPM intake, Comp cams 274* extreme energy cam, Comp cams 1.6r Magnum rockers, Holley 700cfm double pumper carb,Hedman long tube headers with true duals into dynomax super turbo mufflers,MSD 6 ignition box, MSD8.5mm wires, accel distributor with super coil...

Driveline.....Turbo 350 built for street strip, 2800 rpm stall convertor and 3.42 rear gear

I cant wait to fire her up and break it in...

Can anyone take a guess what kinda numbers I will put down with this combo???

I would think it should be good for at least 350 hp at the flywheel. Perhaps a fair bit more.

I have a question. No flame intended but what made you chose hyper pistons over forged?

I'd HOPE you make more than 350HP because if you don't you just wasted a lot of money because theres guy with heads that cost a fraction of those Edelbrock RPM's with the same cam making around 450HP @ the flywheel.

425ish if you get it dialed in **** on.

However all the guesses at power mean jack squat. The only thing that matters is mph at the track.

The reason I used hyper pistons was I had the block machined by this guy and he recommended these pistons for me so we will see how they hold up..I am hoping for around 400hp out of this setup.

Alright should i advance or retard the timing??? So far the start up is not going good at all and I am afraid that I might ruin a cam by doing this?? is there anything I can do NOW to prevent a cam going bad?

More then likely you are 180* out. Thats pretty much the only way you can be firing the plugs when the intake is open, unless the timing is really retarded.

Bring the #1 cylinder to tdc on the compression stroke and restab the distributor back in with the rotor pointing at the #1 plug.

I'm not trying to flame but you built the motor and can't do rocker arms or set timing?

Somebody help you out or anything?

Nope no one helped me out on this. Other than rocker arms and timing the rest is cake. As of now the car is running sound BUT I was just asking where the optimal timing is for this cam and motor. I want to set it for best performance and I was just asking what degee advance this cam likes but still maintain pump gas freindly.

every engine and combo is differant. you'd need to play around with the timing to find the ideal setting. as a rule you'll want 34 to 36 degrees total advance.
