answer this one smarties!!!

my car with the engine listed in my sig keeps losing oil pressure day by day!! it now running 25 psi on the highway!! this really sucks..... about 5- or 6 at a stop light!! ive heard it could be the restrictor plug under the rear main cap isnt there??(the one in the block that makes the oil go through the filter!!) i think there isnt anyway that its a main or rod bareing i hammer the car wayyyyy too much and it doesnt knock or start hard or anything??!! so i dont think that the mains or rods could be the problem!!maybe the cam bearings?? possible?? the oil pump is part number#m55hv

help this is a new engine and i dont want it to freeze up!!

Could be the oil pump is a pos! Just cause its new and a high volume dosent mean that melling couldent have screwed up. Ive never had a problem with a melling oil pump but that dosent mean that some one else wont have a problem. How old is the pump? If its less than a year it should be under warrenty just take it back and get another. While you have the pan off pull "one" of the rod or main bearings to see if its shot, that should give an indcation to the conditon of the rest of the bearings if their all the same age. looks like you have to pull the pan reguardless.GL

Is your oil pressure sender/ gage reading correct? Verify this with a mechanical oil pressure gage tapped off the oil plug by your distributor. I'd check that first before you rip out the oil pan.

It has a mechanical oil pressure gauge in it already!! I keep tellin' him though that the gauge could be shot....but he doesn't think so!! I've seen what it does and it just doesn't make sense to me!!

first thing i'd do is screw a mechanical gauge in the block and see waht it says, and not the same gauge as is in the car now.

I had 0 psi at idle and 8 on the highway.

No noise no thing.

First thing was first. I took of the oil pressure sending unit and found it was clogged with a bunch of crap.

Oil pressure was great after that.

Make sure you chekc the easy stuff before you go ripping the pan off......

Might save you quite a bit of headaches down the road.
