mustang 5.0 is a chevy motor

is it true that the mustang 5.0 engine was designed by gm and sold to ford in the 50s? i was talking to a old die hard ford fan today and somehow the 5.0 topics came up and he told me that the 5.0 was a gm product of the 50s? since it came from hear say i figure i would ask to see if there any truth to it..

thanks

he is probably mixing up the ford 302 with the 302 that cam in the 67-69 Z28s which was a basiclly a 283 with a bigger 4inch bore

mustang ??

people talk and you cant believe everything you hear.. Its seems like a pointless issue.
But ask your friend thats has all of the answers this!
How many bolt hole does the 5.0 ford have per cylinder
compared to the small block chevy??
the ford has 4 two on top and two on bottom
chevy has 5 kind of like a star shaped pattern.
I had a guy tell me one day at the track that he got his camaro to run faster by running 5.0 ford heads on his 305 chevy all he had to do was bolt them on and go they wont work the bolt pattern and water jackets dont line up at all...

Chevy did make a 302 as well they were rare and they came in some z 28's and a few novas as well but they are all chevy parts

LOL!!! thats pretty funny! although a stock ford 302 and a stock TBI 305 are pretty unequally matched (sadly in ford's favor) they are not the same... you should tell your friend that if Ford actually did buy an engine design off of GM, they might actually be able to make some powerful mustangs...

ok thanks guys. i actualy rode in the guys fox bodied efi stang and im not a ford fan or anyhing but id say that thing definatly would have smoked my old 5.0 berlinetta. seems like a ford engine has a lower stroke to it or somthing just by the way it accelerated stock.

I certainly wouldn't trust any site that is sponsored by Ken Salazar, but...

I don't see any merit to this thread on this board.
