Can I run low-13's with this combo?

I have an 84 TA with the Goodwrench 350, 700R4, 3.73 posi rear. Chevy High Performance did a buildup on this motor about 5 years ago and got some amazing results. I recently acquired a perfect set of Vortec heads for $50. Im planning on going with the Vortec heads, a Comp XE262 cam, 2500 converter, and headers to go with my 3" Flowmaster catback. I was wondering if this combo would go low 13's? Ive heard of similar combos getting into the 12's in a thirdgen. If not, what would I need to run that quick? How realistic is this? By the way, this car would be run at 600ft above sea level. THX

What intake are you planning on running with those Vortec heads?

Its a spreadbore design from GM Performance, with EGR provisions. Im keeping my CC Q-jet and CC dist too.

The cars that I saw on this board that got into the 12's were running the performer rpm and a 750 carb. (usually Holley) The 3.73's are perfect. You may need just a little more converter. Also, you'll need sticky tires.

I'm sure you can get low 13's if you ditch the quadrajet and cc distributor.

You can get into the low 13s with a Q-jet. I have heard the GMPP intake was designed by edelbrock but can't confirm it. The q-jet will flow 750 cfm if you have the model that the air valves open all the way. If not that is an easy fix. The CCC distributer has a lame timing advance curve due the the prom chip but the initial timing can be set at like 6* for more power. I am using the CCC on my van and making more than 275 RWHP

Even the original "H.O." cars had lam timing? I thought they got a more aggresive timing curve.

low 13's are very attainable. instead of spending more on the engine (you will have enough engine) lighten the car, get some very sticky tires and get your suspension to work with you, not against you. get her to grip you got low 13's pretty easy

well a good torque arm defenitly (spohn) and lca relocation brackets (especially if the car is lowered) are the two good ones to start with. the key is to get everything to work together, a good 60 ft. time will get you your low 13's, that means you need traction and with that motor and street tires no way, you need slicks

Well, what would I need to break into the 12's then? Would I need a lot more than that?

Also, can I do it with the XE262 or do I have to run the XE268 or XE274? How streetable are those cams? Keep in mind I have to retain my CCC system.

Under the assumption that AZ is a non-emission state:

Take the Vortec heads in to the machine shop. Have them cleaned up. While they are in there, have them mill down the guide bosses to allow for more lift and cut for a 1.6" exhaust valve. Do some form of securing to the rocker stud. Whether that be pinning or machining for screw in studs. Something other than the factory pull out studs.

It's late, my brain is tired. Is that Goodwrench crate a roller block? If it is, consider using a hydraulic roller such as the Xe270 or the thereabouts.

A 2500-3000 RPM stall would be nice as well as 3.73 rear gears. The transmission may not like the power, though.

Sub frames should be added to the list of suspension/chassis modifications.

with those motors being pretty stout and all i wouldnt be afraid to throw a little juice at it. id say if you got the power to the ground a 75 shot may dip you into the twelves. as long as you can get all the power to the ground

AZ is an emissions state, and the Goodwrench is not a "roller" block.
