Shaking Steering Wheel/Front End(?)
As if i dont have enough to work on with this car already, now this. At speeds between 65mph and 73mph, my steering wheel shakes up and down....doesnt do it at lower speeds, and i dont think it does it at higher speeds either. If i hold the wheel tight enough for the wheel not to shake, then i feel the front end under the car shaking as well. My dad and his mechanic had recently checked out the tire rods(this was a few months ago not for this reason) and they are nice and tight and fine. A friend of mine suggested the idler arm....any other suggestions/ideas?

Triangular (separated) tires? more common than you might think.

Rezinn....
Tire rods have been checked out...they are nice and tight. Driveshaft hasnt been touched, didnt check that. Has to be looked into.
RB83L69....
Triangular(seperated) tires?? What the h-ll is that??
82 Camaro....
Tires are good....almost new. Wheels are fine. Probably balance is the only other thing i can think of....
Oustside of that, what about the idler arm??

Check if I am correct, but I think if the idler arm was screwed up, you would have problems at more than just a certain speed range. I would definately have the driveshaft balanced and replace the u-joints. Sorry you didn't get my joke about "tie rods" =p

I jokingly referred to yerbasic typical separated tire as "triangular", since it's usually even worse than how it would be if it was "square". Even new tires (especially can be separated. I've seen that happen more than once. It occurs when the belts don't adhere to each other and the tire gets a lump in it somewhere. You can park the car and run your hands around them and feel them, usually. More often than not they're at one edge of the tread, so the tread will feel uneven from one edge to the other for some distance around the tire.

A bad idler arm would cause the shaking at all speeds. I had a bad idler arm and the shaking only occured at lower speeds. On the highway it was fine. Its happening again though so it looks like I need to replace the Pitman arm and centerlink as well.

Rezinn & RB83...
Sorry guys, for not picking up on that....i must not have been all there when you guys made those jokes....i'm still recovering from the 4th
Anyway, i guess i will just have to do a sweep of the front end, including the tires, and go piece by piece. This shaking has got to stop, its verry annoying, especially when you have a chick in the car with you, and she looks over, and you look like you are holding onto a jackhammer while trying to smile at her....not a big turn on, i dont think.
Thanks for the help guys.

Does it happen at 74mph? Is the driveshaft balanced?
