Car died driving down the road?
Car died driving down the road?
This has only happened once before. i was coming home today from the movies and driving down the street about 800 yards from my house it was about 93 out today. And the engine went to Zero RPM. It was as if I had turned off the engine. I put the car in park and restrated the engine. It started like it normally does but then 4 secs it went from 8 x1000 RPM to 0 again as if i just turned it off. No funny noises or anything. I tried this two more times with the same problem. So I moved it to the side of the road and walked to my house. Icame back 10 mins later and it started fine. Drove it to my driveway. Any ideas what may be cuasing this??

I have some what the same problem. I start it up hot or cold but mainly hot it starts fine but as SOON as I TOUCH the gas it DIES. It keeps doing this till it runs fine or till I shut the key off for a min or two and restart it runs fine. To this day I have not found a solution to this. It is totally embarrasing when Im waiting to race it and I can't even start it, then I have all the ford people laughing. :|

Dude, no one spills my beer! Sorry about the dying problems guys, I can relate.. it is totally embarrassing and angering. Im assuming both of these are TPI cars, MAF, correct? On my z, this problem dissapeared after replacing the MAF and the relays. Try cleaning your throttle body and intake with some throttle body cleaner and see if it helps.
After your car dies, disconnect the MAF and try to start it. It should have trouble at first, but if it is MAF related, it will probably start.

I had this EXACT same problem my '87 SC lg4, would drive around perfectly with no problem for a couple hours but as the more i drove it, it would start to bog and when i touched the gas it would die, my fuel pump was bad, sounds like you have the same problem, and after my car shut down it would start up and then die again seconds later then eventually wouldn't start anymore and would sit about 2 hours before i could drive it again. Check the fuel pump it could be the problem, might want to go take it to a mechanic shop and get the engine diagnostic check done on it, they're usually like 50 bucks and save you time lookin for the wrong part, but listen to me...it just might be the fuel pump, sounds exactly like my problem and as soon as i switched out the fuel pump i had no problems anymore.
