Can't get Starter out!

My car is jacked up in my garage as I type this. I have every thing disconnected from the starter. I can't find one, single, possible, way to get it out. Everything is in the way of everything else! My Chilton's shop manual dosen't mention anything about removing anything else. What on "***'s" green earth am I missing here? Is Chilton's full of sh#t? ARRRG!

just did a starter on an 87 tpi formula. Drop the exhaust at the manifolds and then take the bracket off at the back of the transmission
10 minute job after that

You have to pull the exhaust manifold to pull a starter?! I certainly have done it on my V6 and twice on my V8 without it.

I have headers on mine, but the header didnt have to come off. I did have to unbolt the Y-pipe though.

I ground a relief into the lower control arm on that side. Did not take much to provide the clearance I needed.

Barring that, drop the y-pipe on that side, then it will come out.

I got it out. All, it took was a LARGE screwdriver to pry the pipe out of the way. As it turns out if you cut the front bracket stud in half it comes right out and back in. Thanks for the help.

Mine fell out after droping the Ypipe a little. And yes, it landed on my arm, heavy sucker.

It's a bitch, but it will come out. It takes some creative maneuvering.

I didn't mean to sound like you had to take the manifolds off. We did have to drop the y pipe down.

One you get it out, put a mini starter (like one from a '95 LT1, which I'm running now) back on it so it fits in there easier..
