Engine pops and stalls, vacume? choke?

Well I just got a new GM Goody 350 Crate engine droped in about two weeks ago. I had it installed by a mechanic my dad knows. Anyway this past week my engine has "popped" then the power cut out (but never died). This has been happening more and more frequant. I checked the vacume lines and don't see or hear any leaks. The choke is messed up so I set it back to where it is always open and it still does it. Any help would be great.

BTW. I have an Edelbrock 600 cfm carb (Non-comp., non-egr) sitting on a Preformer intake. I think the harmonic balancer is for a 305 and it still has the comp. controlled distributer. I'm buying a HEI ACCEL one and fixing the choke coil Saturday. If this has anything to do with it.

It does seem to happen around 2500 rpms. Has anyone else had this problem?

That CC distributor isn't helping anything, I wouldn't drive it until you get a NON CC one. That might be your problem right there. But also make sure the choke is adjusted properly, did you do it according to the manual. Also check to make sure you don't have any burnt plug wires as this has happened to me too.

Also I was wondering, I have the same engine as you along with some other mods? Not saying I dont' believe you, but how are you running 13's with out exhaust and those gears. Also why do you estimate it at 300rwhp. That engine dynoed, with a q-jet, open headers, HEI dist., and cast iron intake puts out a max of 250 hp.
